I love flipping through the pages of design books from the 1980s. I also enjoy looking for features and motifs that appear in photo after photo. One of my favorite accents: a bowl of fruit. If ’80s design was about decadence, it makes sense that decor would mirror this “cup runneth over” approach. Or shall I say “bowl runneth over”…

Pastel power! In the ’80s, pastels were anything but limited to kids’ rooms. In fact, they were a popular choice for living rooms. Think pink and purple sofas, ceramics in soft hues, and lots of pillows.
One of the most affordable ways to add retro style to your home in through sand art, rocks and minerals. While buying them from specialty shops isn’t always cheap, there are online sellers who offer affordable specimens, and I’ve found that estate sales are a great place to hunt them down!
I wanted to take some time today and check in with all of you. Since the start of the new year, I’ve been making an effort to include more original photo shoots here at Mirror80. It goes without saying that every week I’ll continue to post lots of original design photos from the ’80s (many of them from my favorite 1980s design books).
