Ready for a party? If you follow Mirror80’s Retro Foodie series, you know that the intersection of entertaining and ’80s style is a true passion of mine. Things are going to get a bit girly today, but you should also know by now that pink floral style isn’t the norm here on Mirror80. Which means I must have a pretty good reason for this post…and that reason is the 1986 film Pretty in Pink!

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! If you caught last month’s post on early ’80s food styling, consider this a “part 2”! We’ve explored some fun photography trends of the ’70s-meets-’80s time frame, including dark backgrounds, creative garnishes and plenty of whipped cream. Today we take a look at a few more photos from the 1982 edition of The Encyclopedia of Creative Cooking, which is packed with amazing color photos of retro-fabulous food, like the hot baked grapefruit above. Early ’80s Food Styling
If you’re a fan of Mirror80’s Retro Foodie series, you know how much I enjoy preparing delicious treats and styling them with retro flair. Today Retro Foodie takes a different turn as we look back at actual food styling photos from an early ’80s cookbook, The Encyclopedia of Creative Cooking, edited by Charlotte Turgeon. Filled with 2,000 recipes and 800 full-color photos, this cookbook was a special gift from my Mom-in-Law. I’ve scanned some of my favorite images below and grouped them by styling trend. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day
So we’re coming up on Valentine’s Day weekend, and I wanted to share a few of my recent photos with you. Let me start by saying that I know this is kind of a weird holiday. Like all holidays, it can be lonely if you’re missing somebody, and the heavy advertising at this time of year doesn’t help. With that said, I’ve always believed that Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to do something nice for yourself. And for the people you care about, including friends and family.
The Mirror80 Valentine’s Day Roundup
Happy Friday, Everyone! Since Valentine’s Day is a little over a week away, I thought I’d share some of Mirror80’s best “heart day” posts. While I know people have different views on this holiday (it can be a tough day, it can be a great day), I enjoy it because so many of the visuals can’t help but ooze retro style.

A Retro Glam New Year’s Eve Party
Happy Holidays, Everyone! We’re less than a week away from New Year’s Eve, so I thought I’d share some photos from Mirror80’s latest shoot. I’ve put together a New Year’s party concept that is both low-maintenance and festive. It involves re-purposing metallic Christmas decorations and letting the bubbly speak for itself. If you’re wiped out from the holiday hoopla, consider keeping it simple yet stylish…
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! On this day before the big feast, I’m preparing to host my very first Thanksgiving! Luckily I’m not in charge of preparing all of the food–just a few dishes. That leaves me free to focus on what I love most: styling the event. Above is an image of the table setting. Still working on getting the rest of the items on the table, but I wanted to share a snapshot of the prep phase.
