It’s no secret that Mirror80 is a wee bit obsessed with Swatch Watches! So you can imagine our surprise when we stumbled across a brand spanking new ’80s tribal Swatch on the pages of a fashion magazine. After further research, it seems other ’80s motifs (such as zebra print) are now gracing the Swatch collection! With ’80s fashion motifs once again in full effect, it’s no surprise that Swatch would catch on and bring back a bit of the decade that made them famous!

Liz Claiborne purses took the ’80s by storm with their geometric motifs and vast range of colors. Whether the triangles were raised or printed in dark outlines on the purses, the effect was equally fabulous. And now these little gems are back! With the help of Etsy friends and color schemes from Adobe website Kuler, we celebrate the multi-hued possibilities of Liz Claiborne.
Today’s dose of style comes from Forever 21 and their extensive assortment of ’80s tribal prints. Why we love Forever 21: the way they’ve repeatedly zoned in on the geometric possibilities of ’80s motifs and spruced them up with electric neon hues. What we wish they’d do differently: offer more shirts in fitted sizes to flatter those of us without model DNA. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the ’80s, it’s that baggier isn’t always better. Our solution: make pillows out of their over-sized tops.
In honor of acclaimed indie director Whit Stillman’s new film Damsels in Distress, we travel back to the year 1990 and revisit his very first movie, the beloved Metropolitan. Spring is in the air, and geometric clothing reminiscent of the ’80s is in stores, most notably at Forever 21! Some of this geometry channels a tribal vibe, such as the ’80s Southwestern look. Other shape-filled tops remind us of childhood and its playfully bright forms. And we can’t forget the way geometry can channel the future, or at the very least, a modern feel that manages to be retro at the same time.
Today we celebrate the sweater wardrobe of Jennifer Keaton, the youngest daughter of the beloved Keaton family in the hit TV series Family Ties. Jennifer was smart, sweet and sarcastic, and her attire rivaled that of Bill Cosby’s Cliff Huxtable. Yes, The Cosby Show preceded Family Ties during NBC’s famous Thursday night lineup in the 1980s.
