Happy Monday, Everyone! With last week’s surgery behind me, I’m now officially ready for the holidays! Stay tuned for some fun blog posts in the coming days, from the Mirror80 Gift Guide to a book release from one of our favorite ’80s insiders. I thought I’d start the week by sharing some pics with you. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at my place, and I’ve had fun decking the halls and the walls with retro-style decor that complements the space. Geometric art is abundant in our living room, so we wanted a tree with bright ornaments that celebrate the whimsy of ultra-colorful ’80s design. We enjoyed creating a timeless modern look that fit our home…
One of my favorite design trends from this fall is the return of gold. Yes folks, brass is back! In the dining room, we went with a “silver and gold” theme, complete with brass candlesticks from CB2 and a retro bowl filled with spiky silver holiday decorations…
A mirrored tile from IKEA is the perfect way to offset your holiday centerpiece. The runner is from West Elm. I spotted it on their site one day, and soon I realized that many a blogger had targeted this item. It quickly disappeared from the retailer’s stock. I made a desperate trip to my local West Elm and begged the staff to let me buy their last runner from the display table. It was stained and creased, but nothing that a little Zout and a good ironing couldn’t take care of! Needless to say, I feel very fortunate to have grabbed this piece! If you like the look, the runner is also available in black, and that rendition of the design was still available in-store when I last checked….
Next up: silver and gold trees. Affordable and fun, they create a retro holiday look that blends with a variety of design styles (including an ’80s-inspired). Those “gold” trees were once white. They’ve yellowed over the last few years, but we decided to just go with it and play up the warm tones. The only drawback: those white Christmas light strands now stand out a bit more than they should!
One last touch: a quartz mineral sample. Don’t hesitate to decorate with minerals this holiday! They sparkle, they shine, and they’re the perfect complement to retro decor, as we’ve seen in the homes of ’80s-loving designers such as Evan Lobel.
I hope your week (and your holiday) is off to a great start!…
