Marble, Granite, Pattern and Texture

Marble tile texture-001

Let’s talk about texture, shall we?! One of my favorite ways to create visual texture is through pattern, and marble is a great place to start. It has the power to evoke instant ’80s style, whether you’re looking to channel modern or Deco flair. Yet other stone-inspired patterns (such as granite) can create a Memphis-Milano look at home. This week I snapped some photos of textural objects, and I’ve also gathered a couple of my favorite close-up images to round out the post. Here’s to speckles, veins and other retro-modern designs…

Marble

It’s sleek. It’s chic. It’s lobby-luxe. It’s marble! [image below from Heritage Stone]

Whether you hit the flooring store for marble tile to stack and arrange in modern vignettes or you use marble contact paper to your advantage, check out this DIY tutorial to learn how I crafted the tiles below:

Speckles and Splatters

When it comes to creating textural patterns, paint is your friend. Speckles can easily be achieved with a toothbrush. Paint can be splattered and dripped across surfaces for added embellishment. And Krylon now makes a Marbelizing Spray! Learn more about easy painting techniques that add Memphis flair here:

Granite

Granite patterns have an industrial look that can also veer into Memphis territory. The Memphis-style vase below couldn’t be easier to create (details here):

And now for a granite close-up…this photo from bgfons should do the trick:

Just a quick and friendly reminder that granite contact paper is affordable and accessible (and often more widely available than marble contact paper)! Check out more granite tile fun in this post…

Marble. Speckles. Granite. It couldn’t be easier to get a retro-modern look at home. Keep it simple, and jazz it up with a few geo objects for added interest! Happy Decorating.  XOXO, Kate

I have a very simple idea about this kind of tile. Thank you very to share details about that.
