A Retro Menagerie

A retro menagerie

A retro menagerie

Anyone else in love with 1stdibs? They have an AMAZING selection of ’70s and ’80s finds. No, you won’t find the bargains that you score on eBay and Etsy. But at the very least, you can learn about some of the top designers of your favorite decades. And you’ll know what to be on the lookout for at estate sales and thrift shops… Which leads me to my latest interior design project: A retro menagerie!

I’m on a mission to bring more ’70s and ’80s design to my interior. My style is actually pretty eclectic. You won’t find a room in my home with one clear look. What ties everything together: clean lines, sweeping curves and a bit of geometry. But there’s also a softness there…and there’s no room where this “girly” element appears quite like my bedroom. Yes, my hubby has been a good sport. But as time has gone on, even I have had the desire to replace the quirky botanical prints and my extensive milk glass collection with something a bit more retro (and less “vintage”).

That’s why I’m taking my ’80s Deco-style black and glass shelf and filling it with new treasures. “New Retro” treasures, that is. While I’d love nothing more than to spend thousands of dollars on the gorgeous collectibles you see at the top of the post, I’m going to need to be a bit more resourceful. We’re talking Goodwill, Savers, thrift stores and estate sales. OK, so my menagerie might not look quite like the one above… But there are MANY treasures to be found. And if I play my cards right, maybe I can order a designer collectible or two! If you’re in the market for some top-notch decor, check out the sources for today’s featured finds:
