’80s Fashion Highlights from Sammy Davis Vintage

I’ve recently had the pleasure of striking up a correspondence with Sammy Davis of Sammy Davis Vintage, a site dedicated to sharing the vintage love by highlighting quality fashion that stands the test of time.  Not to mention, Sammy features a variety of vintage sellers, as well as specific fashion trends from an array of decades. Today we spotlight her article ’80s Clothing Trends You Love to Remember (or Wear!), as well as some amazing pics of 1980s dresses courtesy of Olive’s Very Vintage and modeled by none other than Sammy Davis herself!

What makes hunting for ’80s pieces so tricky? The 1980s may be the most satirized decade yet! Try taking a little “test.” Pretend you’ve just been invited to an ’80s party, and without thinking too hard, name 3 items of 1980s clothing and/or accessories, possibly pieces you’d consider wearing to the event. I’ll try it too–here’s what pops into my head: “leg warmers, a leotard and a glow necklace.” Really?! I lived through the ’80s, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone wearing all three of these items at once. And herein lies the problem.

Over time, ’80s fashion has become a bit of a joke. But in some strange way, this very fact has helped 1980s fashion return with a vengeance. Why? Because it’s so eye-catching. Because it’s fun. Because it acknowledges that fashion can have a sense of humor. Because it’s unforgettable.

With that said, shopping for ’80s clothing in a vintage boutique can still feel like navigating a minefield. Sure, each ensemble makes a bold (sometimes explosive) statement, but finding the one that suits you is the challenge.
