In honor of ’80s Fashion Week at Mirror80, today we spotlight the role of fashion in the realm of 1980s music video. Thanks to the advent of MTV in 1981, musicians had a new outlet for creativity, and they quickly filled the screen with the latest styles. A variety of looks emerged… Today we showcase a handful of them, as well as the music videos in which they appeared.

An Iris and Lily Mood Board
Today we’re immersing ourselves in the ’80s iris and lily phenomenon! Ceramics, flowers, clothing and jewelry–this floral Deco look put its stamp on many a product in the decade of decadence. And the look is inspiring our latest Retro Foodie event, which is shaping up to be a glamorous take on 1980s floral style. I’ve put together a mood board to cement the theme, and I can’t help but start with the Mikasa plate at the top left of the montage, which is a gift from my friend Kat. Thanks to Kat for getting the ball rolling! Enjoy today’s montage, and stay tuned for our next Retro Foodie post in June, complete with recipes and decor…
The ’80s Kitchen
It’s no secret that lately I’ve been obsessed with ’80s kitchens, likely because I’m about to move into a new place where the kitchen has distinct elements of 1980s style. As I’m trying to plan out how to accessorize the space, I’ve been looking through my ’80s design books (a.k.a. my decorating bibles), and I’ve pulled some amazing images of ’80s modern kitchens. Check out the pics above and below, as well as the design choices they’ve inspired!

New Retro Pendant Lights
Hi Everyone! As many of you know, I’m moving to a new place with a slanted wood fireplace and other ’80s highlights! There’s wiring for a pendant light over the dining area, and I’ve been checking out a range of possibilities. Here are a few “finalists”… I’ve zoned in on pieces with retro looks that range from the ’60s throughout the ’80s (although all of these basic lighting shapes continued to appear in homes throughout the 1980s). With that said…any favorites?! I’d love some input! Don’t hesitate to leave a comment…
A Hint of ’80s Summer Style

They have hints of ’80s design (some more blatant than others), and they would definitely add a splash of color to your wardrobe or interior!
New Retro Weekender: Cooking Up Some ’80s-Style Design!
Happy Friday, Everyone! What are you up to this weekend? On my agenda is a list of tasks that relate to my upcoming move. For one thing, we’re finally getting a little more space. Which means we may have room for more than a couch in the living room! I’m on the hunt for a couple of comfy chairs. Not to mention, there’s wiring for a pendant light to hang over the dining room table–looks like it’s time to head to IKEA! Check out my weekend to-dos below, as well as a few tips on current sources for ’80s style!
’70s Interior Design Spotlight: Foul Play Starring Goldie Hawn
Anyone seen the movie Foul Play starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase? Released in 1978, the film was written and directed by Colin Higgins. I couldn’t resist posting the IMDB plot summary: “A shy San Francisco librarian and a bumbling cop fall in love as they solve a crime involving albinos, dwarves, and the Catholic Church.” You know, you just have to see this zany pic to get the full effect! Today we spotlight the movie’s ’70s-fabulous interior design, which includes a few trends that continued to shine throughout the ’80s, such as curved shelving and slanted wooden paneling.
’80s DIY: A Floral Tower
If you’ve been reading Mirror80 this month, you know it’s been my dream to construct a sculptural floral arrangement in a ceramic round planter. Today we debut the DIY results, and we couldn’t be more excited! This project has an undeniably ’80s look. What keeps it from looking outdated? You have to commit 100% to clearly taking it over the top. Bright colors and lots of height help to achieve this goal, as you’ll see below…
