The sculpture of Esther Ruiz has an other-worldly feel, yet also a vibe that can’t help but evoke a sense of ’80s style. Think New Memphis meets Neon Noir, with a unique twist! Combining materials such as hydraulic cement, Plexiglas, neon and minerals, Ruiz creates compositions that are both clean-lined and chunky. It’s the start of a new week, and I’m excited to share today’s image-packed post with you! First I’d like to begin by thanking ’80s interior design expert Skylar Strickland, who you will remember from a Mirror80 interview we published back in August of 2013. Skylar has recently launched a 1980s interior design Tumblr called 80s Heaven, which features a range of retro-fabulous images, including many real estate photos of ’80s-built houses.
So we’re coming up on Valentine’s Day weekend, and I wanted to share a few of my recent photos with you. Let me start by saying that I know this is kind of a weird holiday. Like all holidays, it can be lonely if you’re missing somebody, and the heavy advertising at this time of year doesn’t help. With that said, I’ve always believed that Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to do something nice for yourself. And for the people you care about, including friends and family.
