Behind the Scenes: Pastel Edition

Hi Everyone! I’m in pastel paradise over here, and I wanted to share some snapshots of my behind-the-scenes endeavors. Some are blog-related, and others are simply personal projects I’m working on…like finding the perfect Mai Tai recipe! I think I’ve narrowed it down to a “one part rum, two parts juice” combo, with the rum including both dark and light, and the juice consisting of pineapple, cranberry and orange. Orgeat is another definite possibility for liqueur. I’m entertaining in a couple of weeks and wanted something summery and retro. In other news, I’ve been painting and brainstorming some wall art possibilities:

I was going for a series of pastel canvases with a terrazzo pattern stenciled on (more on terrazzo style later in the post). I love the way the pastels look, but they were a bit too much for the room I had in mind. So now instead of wall art, I have four new “backdrops” for photo shoots. Back to the terrazzo trend, I’m very smitten with this Terrazzo Doona Cover from Arro Home. There’s something so simple and refreshing about the design.

It even inspired me to try a little terrazzo patterning of my own. I cut a stencil with the help of an X-Acto knife and used it to create the aqua design below. While I won’t be painting the design on my wall as originally planned, I know I’ll find a use for this “test run”. And for the wall…I’ve ordered these geometric decals from Etsy shop Eco Wall Decals in shades of aqua and mint. I’ll probably scatter them in a line across the middle of the wall–I’ll share the results once I’m done.
