Fall is definitely in the air! For this week’s Mid-Week Match-Up, we’ve collected screen shots from ’80s films featuring Fall-fabulous moments. In fact, the season of Fall played a crucial role in all three featured films: Baby Boom, When Harry Met Sally, and St. Elmo’s Fire.
In Baby Boom, career woman J.C. Wiatt moves from hectic New York City to Hadleyville, Vermont, a quaint small town that represents the slower-paced life she’s seeking. Fall colors play up the town’s charm and make J.C.’s arrival all the more welcoming. In contrast, the Fall leaves that abound in key scenes from When Harry Met Sally (1989) help glorify New York City. The setting is practically another character in the film, and director Rob Reiner doesn’t hide his affection for the city.
Finally, the Fall leaves of St. Elmo’s Fire (1985) create a picturesque portrayal of D.C.’s Georgetown University and neighborhood. They also signal the passage of time–the film’s characters are recent graduates, and their lives are changing along with the leaves. Enjoy this week’s match-up:
In crediting the stills above, we start with the top row and proceed left to right. Top Row: Andie MacDowell in St. Elmo’s Fire, apple picking in Baby Boom; Middle Row: driving to Hadleyville in Baby Boom, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally; Bottom Row: D.C.’s Georgetown neighborhood in St. Elmo’s Fire, Rob Lowe in St. Elmo’s Fire
Happy Fall!

Googled on this topic about photos of fall time in the 80s and that’s how I found this blog. I have bookmarked this page on my laptop. Thought I would share that because I saw no other comments so thought why not. ; ) <3
