Yes, the title of this week’s video pick and of the band itself are the same… I remember seeing the name of this song in print and being struck by the repetition of the juxtaposed band and track. And soon I was equally struck by the song. Like Missing Persons’ “Give,” this Talk Talk video features metallic accents, strategic lighting, and a dynamic song with pumping energy from start to finish.
While we’re on the topic of energy, we’d be crazy not to mention the amazing presence of Talk Talk lead singer Mark Hollis. Talk about getting an “A” for effort! Watch the video and you’ll see what we mean–the anguished urgency of his delivery from inside a cage-like set is rarely matched, especially in the realm of early ’80s synthpop. Resist the temptation to pick up the phone and call for medical help. In fact, the performance alone elevates this piece from primitive video to art.
And we can’t help but admire band members’ stark white wardrobe, each ensemble a bit different from the next. Sleek, fitted, some with a tie and some without, the outfits appear fresh and striking in front of the futuristic set. Our personal favorite: the suspenders. What’s not to love?!
