I recently ordered a couple of new ’80s design books, and the first of them arrived this week! Filled with the “latest” 1980s advice on revamping your home, Metropolian Home Renovation Style is also filled with amazing photos. I’m sharing a few of my favorites with you today, with a focus on interiors that showcase special features. Like the columns and arches in the room above! Keep reading for more inspirational ’80s spaces…
A Chic Stone Fireplace
The fireplace above may as well be from the present day, as it beautifully fits with the current marble and geo crazes. But instead it resides in a Venice, California bungalow circa 1985. And it showcases exotic, pricey Brazilian blue granite, as well as rose Aurora pink Italian marble!
A Metal Railing
Railings are often seen in commercial spaces…which makes them super interesting when you bring them into residential interiors! Especially when they accompany sculptural raised platforms like the one above. Curves rule in this space. It’s also hard to ignore the fabulous indoor tree and the use of glass block in the upper portion of the home.
Sculptural Lighting
I’m guessing the Deco-style column above doubles as sconce lighting, but if not, the lamp that rests next to the sofa makes a big lighting statement on its own. Throw in some ruched pillows in carefully curated hues, and you have the ultimate living room lounge!
Floor-to-Ceiling Windows
What makes this space so fabulous can’t be summed up in one feature, although the floor-to-ceiling steel-frame windows don’t hurt. It’s also the way the windows (and the wall) stairstep up from the left, the way they extend to the ceiling, and the way a tall potted cactus is the perfect accompaniment to all of this interior greatness!
Thanks for reading, and happy decorating! XOXO, Kate
