Happy Monday! This Wednesday marks the official start of fall, and after a busier-than-usual summer, I’m ready to settle in for some relaxing fun this autumn. Isn’t it great when a new season is on the horizon, and you can pretend that it won’t be as crazy as the one that came before it? Seriously hoping to slow down a bit, though. Whether life calms down or revs up, I intend to keep a few of my favorite traditions alive in the coming weeks, so I’m sharing my plans with you today, complete with photos and links to previous Mirror80 blog posts. Lots of fall style to enjoy…
Decorate Pumpkins
Maybe it’s all those years I spent teaching, but I’ll be OK if I don’t carve another pumpkin again for a long time. I actually prefer to paint them! I picked up a few white pumpkins at the end of last week and decorated them this morning. I’ll be sharing the results with you soon. Above we see last year’s painted pumpkin, which you may have caught a glimpse of in this post.
Style a Fall Table
I’ve really been enjoying the styling/art direction aspect of Mirror80 photo shoots in recent months. I’m learning more about the capabilities of my camera as we speak, so I hope to take things up a notch with my pics this season. And with decorated pumpkins in hand, it will be time to style a fall table or two. I’d love to host a fall dinner party for my close friends, and I might end up hosting a family meal around Thanksgiving as well. Still deciding how to put a retro-modern spin on things, but I guarantee I’ll be sharing the photos when I do!
Host a Halloween Movie Night
Halloween is my favorite holiday. There’s little to no emotional baggage, there’s candy everywhere you look, and you’re highly encouraged to dress up and pretend to be someone you’re not–ha! It’s really the last holiday that says “Go ahead and indulge…just for fun” before the more formal late fall/winter holidays hit. I love those too, but for different reasons. So I typically start watching scary movies (or suspenseful sci-fi) in late September, because why not revel in a whole month of fun?! Below we see a cheese plate from last year’s Halloween movie party, and above are a couple of screen shots from the 1985 cult fave Fright Night. Still deciding on the movies I’ll be enjoying with friends this year, but there will be weekly binge viewing involved, I guarantee it!
Enjoy a Fall Fashion Photo Shoot
Remember last year’s shoot in the ’80s office park? I brought along the pumpkin for fun, and it definitely worked its way into the photos. I have big plans for this year, and it just might involve recreating the look of one of my favorite ’80s videos of all time. Stay tuned…
Aside from these fall plans, there are many others on the list, from finishing some landscaping projects before it gets cold to enjoying a few romantic meals out with my husband. I also have some design projects underway at home that I’ll be wrapping up before winter.
Hope your fall season is as festive or relaxing as you want it to be! Thanks for reading…
