Anyone else already hooked on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire? This new series follows a trio of tech-savvy pioneers who reverse engineer an IBM computer in the hopes of joining the PC revolution and transforming 1980s tech culture in the process. Yes, this show occupies the time slot that Mad Men left behind. Is it possible that AMC got wind of our dream ’80s television series, Rad Men? OK, not so likely. But that doesn’t mean we don’t already love their newest foray into the realm of pop culture history. There are many reasons to watch Halt and Catch Fire. Here are our top four:

’80s Tech Culture

Entrepreneurial energy is hot right now. Know someone with an idea for a startup? Maybe you? This show will light a fire under your tushy. Plus, thanks to Tumblr and nostalgia, people are finally embracing the ’80s tech aesthetic, especially when it comes to the PC revolution. Congrats to Halt and Catch Fire for truly bringing this magic to the small screen.

Corporate Life

Folks, we’ve made no secret of our love for ’80s excess. There’s a certain aesthetic that accompanied corporate culture in the 1980s, and it was quite striking. Some call it the lobby look. Bring on the mirrors and glass! Combine this sleek vibe with a hint of greed and a dash of retro office electronics, and you have a glossy yet gritty picture of cultural history. Why not revel in it every Sunday night?!

1980s Fashion

We love the suits. But what really stands out in the series premiere of Halt and Catch Fire is the wardrobe of coding prodigy Cameron Howe, played by Mackenzie Davis. With a cavalier attitude that rivals Mary Stuart Masteron’s “Watts” from Some Kind of Wonderful, Davis rocks a thoughtfully curated wardrobe that includes camo pants, a punk jacket, and a fitted red sweater you know you’ll be trying to hunt down at thrift stores (see the top of the post).

The Interiors

Conference tables. Skyline views. Vertical blinds. As we’ve mentioned, we love the look of ’80s corporate interiors. But there’s another side to this retro look. Dark family living rooms illuminated by the flicker of the television set. Dingy garages filled with electronic equipment. Halt and Catch Fire, you’ve nailed it!

Tune in to Halt and Catch Fire Sunday nights at 10/9C on AMC. For more information, great pics and special features such as ’80s-fabulous playlists “curated” by the characters, check out the show’s official website. Enjoy!
