Our ’80s Egyptian Revival week wraps up with a video it would’ve been crazy NOT to feature! That’s right–it’s the Bangles, with a song they included on their 1986 album Different Light.
“Walk Like an Egyptian” reached #1 in the U.S., making it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Word has it the band’s producer asked each band member to sing the lyrics before ultimately deciding who would sing and record each verse. But those of you looking for a glimpse of Egyptian style in this video should keep your eye on the song’s bridge rather than the verses…
It’s in the bridge (“way-0h-way-oh-way-oh…”) that The Bangles dress in Egyptian attire, complete with headdresses and braided sandals. Gold-toned accents, sheer and jewel-toned fabrics and heavy cuff bracelets all sparkle.
Enjoy this lighthearted glimpse into ancient Egypt courtesy of The Bangles.
Happy Friday!

I ride hunter/jumper horses, and this is one of my favorite songs to ride to. I bungee-cord my boombox to the arena fence, put in the tape, and crank it up!!! I’ve been doing this for years.
