Hi Everyone! I’m hoping this email finds you starting to at least get the beginnings of warm weather wherever you are. Today we focus on some seasonal happenings and other recent developments that prove spring is in full bloom, ’80s-style! Get ready to revel in 1980s design–perhaps it will inspire you to make some refreshing changes to your abode. And maybe you can even reward yourself with tickets to an upcoming concert…
MY WEEKEND AGENDA:
Update my iPod with ’80s music. Believe it or not, I’ve been listening to a bunch of new tracks–more so than ’80s hits these days. In fact, when I first got the iPod, I pretty much focused on new music, leaving my ’80s music moments to YouTube and my CD collection. Time to get with the program and bring my past into my present (and future). Speaking of ’80s music, did you know that New Order is on tour this summer? Better get your tickets asap. The New Order poster image at the upper left of the montage is courtesy of New Order Now.
Finish my latest ’80s DIY project. Yes, I’m planning to create an over-the-top floral arrangement in a low round ceramic planter. Perhaps I’ll head to Michael’s and get some blooms like the bouquet at the top right of the montage above. Read about my plans for this DIY project here.
Plan the newest edition of Retro Foodie. Yes, it’s already mid-April. Which means it’s time to plan early May’s edition of Retro Foodie!!! For this feature, we’re focusing on iris and lily motifs and going for a full-on decadent ’80s Deco-style buffet. Should be tasty–and floral! My inspiration came from my friend Kat, who bought me an ’80s iris-motif plate from Goodwill and sent me the pic of the iris shirt (from Oasis) seen in the middle of the montage above. Thanks, Kat!
Start my spring cleaning. Why? Because I’ll be moving in early June, and if I leave all the cleaning until the last day of my lease, I won’t be doing myself any favors. Maybe some colorful sponges like the ones above will help motivate me to scrub…
Ponder the decor and layout for my new place. That’s the upside of moving–getting to immerse yourself in a whole slew of interior design projects. Folks, this new place is filled with ’80s details (it was built in 1981)! I’ll be sharing some of them with you as time goes on. In the meantime, I’ll get my inspiration from my ’80s design bible, The Decorating Book by Mary Gilliatt!
I hope this weekend is productive and lots of fun! And I wish all of you the spring weekend of your dreams…
