So this is weird Thanksgiving, isn’t it?! Let’s hear it for 2020. While today’s table was styled for a Thanksgiving-themed post, the wall behind the table is the current state of my interior. You’re looking at my dining room, decorated with the desperation of a person who’s basically been at home for the last 8 months. I have a young child, so anything I can do to make home seem like a party is essential.
This isn’t a window into an authentic ’80s Thanksgiving holiday, but there are definitely some retro-style elements at play. I also wanted to take this post as an opportunity to check in and see how everyone is holding up before the holidays hit…We’re hanging in there for sure, trying to ignore how strange it will be to have an “immediate family only “-style Thanksgiving. If you’re keeping it super small this year or even celebrating alone, do something special for yourself. Make some delicious dishes, design a table that brings you joy, and connect with the people you care about.
We’re keeping it simple with party plates from Harlow & Grey. I’m in love with the Deco-modern style of these Blanc designs in large and small. And don’t forget to check out the brand’s free downloadable/printable Shelter-In-Place Journal (there’s even one for parents). The juggle is real, folks!
Back to the table, it’s time to shine the spotlight on some stemware. On Turkey Day, I plan on sipping honeyed Prosecco out of the Eve Coupe Cocktail Glass pictured below:
I can’t confirm that the vases on my table are from the 1980s, but I love the retro vibe they channel. I’ve stuffed them with faux coral, berry branches my daughter gathered on one of our many walks, and preserved ruscus from Terrain. The appetizer platter below is one silver lining of celebrating the holiday only with those in your house. At a large communal event, the same platter would be the equivalent of a horror show during these times. Am I right?!
Here’s one more floral shot:
The wreath below lives somewhere in between the realms of Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s what you get when you add precut glittery stars to straw. It’s been living on the wall below since late September, and it makes my daughter smile. The wall has also hosted a rotating collection of paper fan wheels since July. I love ordering them from the Oh Happy Day Shop, but you can find them on Amazon as well.
I’m thinking about everyone as we gear up to hunker down for the 2020 holidays. If you’re staying in more than going out these days, know that you’re not alone. Please stay safe, and if you’re searching for community during these unusual times, we’d love to have you join the ’80s Design group on Facebook. I moderate it, and I can honestly say that this is an exceptional group of people with a shared love of the 1980s. Stay tuned for more holiday posts, and cheers to finding some happy distractions over the coming weeks!!
