This week at Mirror80 we get into the Holiday spirit by revisiting ’80s seasonal style. Today’s images are brought to you by the 1987 film Less Than Zero, a haunting story of drug abuse and loss based on the book by Brett Easton Ellis. While the movie is far from the beacon of warm fuzzy Holiday fun, its breathtaking interiors provide us with a glimpse of posh ’80s winter decor. If you lived in a California mansion decorated by a cutting edge interior designer in the mid-late ’80s, perhaps your Christmas tree and centerpieces would look like this…

For one thing, red and green were hardly the colors of choice. The Christmas decor in this film instead welcomes the color white and an assortment of metallics, as shown in the produce-themed centerpieces above. Faux artichokes, apples, asparagus and more are converted to sleek and chic with the help of a can of gold spray paint. Top it off with one red ball ornament, and you too could be dining with L.A.’s most dysfunctional families. Hmmmn….I sense a DIY project coming on…

Feeling alone? If the actress portraying Andrew McCarthy’s mother would just look behind her, she’d see how blue-tinted Christmas ornaments on a white tree warmify even the most starkly modern of interiors. And who doesn’t love a few strategically placed spotlights on both wall and outdoor tropical plant?

This week we’ll delve into the wonder that is ’80s Christmas decor, reveling in both nostalgia and the possibilities of modern updates. Join us each day as we welcome the Holiday Season, 1980s-style!

I love how a white tree can look both vintage and modern at the same time!

Thanks so much for your comment! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the blog. Your living room remodel sounds amazing. I’d love to see pics when you finish! I think there’s a marble coffee table in my future too…
