Welcome to Mirror80’s Thank You for Being a Friend-sgiving!!! Because there’s no other way to host friends this Turkey Day. Taking inspiration from The Golden Girls (is there any other ’80s sitcom to reference for this holiday?!), the ambience is part tropical and part glitz, all capped off with a warm glow.
Here’s what I pulled together to create the laid-back yet festive look:
- gold curtains
- tropical greenery
- an ’80s ceramic vase
- small pumpkins
- coral and other beachy items
- anything pastel (mineral specimens, dinnerware, etc.)
- gold accents, such as brass bowls
- cheesecake!!!!
- bamboo piques with friendly phrases (more on that below)
Since the show was set in Miami and featured a fabulous house with a definite tropical vibe, you can’t go wrong with beachy accents. Not to mention, this year’s iridescent pumpkin DIY really came in handy for the Golden Girls-themed table!
If there’s any event where eating dessert first is the way to go, it’s a Golden Girls Friendsgiving! Add friendly phrases to bamboo piques and top off each slice. “You’re golden,” “Thank you for being a friend,” “Pass the cheesecake”…you get my drift, right?!
And since the Golden Girls’ tablecloth changed out seasonally, we were treated to a range of patterns as we watched the episodes. I found the napkins above on Amazon and didn’t hesitate to order a pack. Another fun decor hint: thrift stores like Goodwill are the perfect place to find ’80s vases! The peach selection below is one of my all-time faves.
Wishing you and yours a joyful Turkey Day, surrounded by delicious food and the comfort of friends. XOXO, Kate

The drawback, though, is that you may have to hear the dreaded words “I knew a turkey like this back in St. Olaf…” and then you’ll be a captive audience. 😉
