Today Mirror80 turns 7! Yes, 7!!! It’s amazing to think about the first post I wrote back in August of 2010, followed by an interview with a vintage vendor who shared some of the hurdles that would have to be overcome in order for a full ’80s design revival to occur. Fast forward 7 years, and not only are we in the middle of an ’80s design revival, it’s definitely going strong! For example, I never would have imagined how Memphis-Milano style would become “mainstream”, especially when presented in an even more abstract, minimalist sort of way.
For a look back at some of my favorite Mirror80 posts ever, check out this roundup I created for the blog’s 5th birthday! So what’s next for Mirror80?… I’m excited about the next few posts, which will present some amazing ’80s finds I scored on Etsy. I’ll also be sharing a room tour that blends two of my favorite motifs (one of them is Memphis-Milano, of course).
On a larger scale, I want the blog to be a definite ’80s design resource, so I’ll be taking some time to reorganize the categories and present a super user-friendly collection of posts based on design styles and other broad topics. I’m redesigning our newsletter, so if you’ve subscribed and wonder where those weekly emails have gone, stay tuned. Something a bit more unique is coming! And last but not least, I have some exciting projects in the works that I’ll be sharing over the coming months.
Thank you for being an important part of this retro-modern design community. I’ve been amazed by the creativity of this group. There’s a kindred spirit quality to meeting other design enthusiasts who appreciate the recent retro. I hadn’t counted on that, and it’s been one of the biggest, most rewarding surprises. Connect with the blog on FB through the Mirror80 page and the ’80s design group (where you can post photos, design tidbits and more). You can also connect on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter and Pinterest. As always, thanks for reading! XOXO, Kate

Congratulations Kate! Time flies! I appreciate your faithfulness with Mirror80. Its one of the few sites I look forward to checking out regularly (for several years, apparently – though I hadn’t really noticed). Excellent work! I look forward to whatever’s next.
Thanks for sharing your work with the rest of us!

Congratlations from Germany! I love you blog and enjoy your articles over and over. So keep on the great work!
By the way it is quite difficult to furnish the home in the style of the 80s, at least in Germany. But I still trying 🙂
