Happy fall, Everyone! Each year I style a Halloween photo shoot featuring a pumpkin project with themes such as “terrazzo” and “iridescent“. Check out Mirror80’s Fall Inspiration board on Pinterest to see some amazing images that influenced today’s post. This year’s Halloween shoot is inspired by the 1988 remake of The Blob, along with current trends in art and still life photography.
The theme: play. Playing with your food. Playing with pumpkins. Playing with random objects. Because things can sometimes get heavy during the winter holidays, and Halloween is your chance to eat candy, pretend to be someone you’re not, and basically be a kid again before life gets a bit more serious! Who’s with me here?…
So obviously this first photo isn’t a pic of me in a vat of slime. It’s movie poster art for The Blob, a super fun ’80s remake of the 1958 classic that’s definitely worth a watch. The visual effects are fabulous, and they made me yearn for my own blob of slime to play with. I used this recipe and created the slime below:
As you can see, I added the slightest bit of red food coloring to get the “blobby” pink color, and I used super-fine glitter for an ethereal effect:
For the photo shoot I also purchased some Nerds and cotton candy. Yes, I was eating pure sugar in various blobby forms throughout this shoot. By the end of the session, I was as hyper as Jeff Goldblum in The Fly (when he was first starting to change).
It’s hard to hide the fact that I was playing with my food, combining the cotton candy with pumpkins, gourds and other interesting supplies I had on hand, including these lavender glasses from CB2. The plate above is also a lovely new CB2 find. Here are some snapshots of the fun:

Last but not least, I added some blue mica powder to the slime, along with iridescent glitter. This was my favorite part:

Awesome, Kate!! Those slimy pumpkin pictures were as satisfying to my eyes as an ASMR whisper video is to my ears! My money’s on the pumpkin to win. They’re kind of slimy on the inside already, so they should be able to handle an exterior slime assault. The remake of The Blob is excellent, I agree!
The blue slime with iridescent glitter is fantastic. Would that picture ever show up in your Society6 store somehow? Would look good on so many things 😉
