Now that we’re officially into March, I wanted to revisit some of my favorite Mirror80 posts from early 2015. The photos above reflect my commitment to making this blog your top source for recent retro style, including mid-’70s through mid-’90s design trends, as well as new decor finds with roots in the past. Here’s a little more about Mirror80, complete with links to the best posts of early 2015:

There’s nothing I love more than highlighting new works by talented artists who incorporate elements of ’80s style. From Plexiglas and mirrors to minerals and neon, the materials used by Esther Ruiz are mesmerizing. See more of her sculpture here.
Mirror80’s Still Life Style series is going strong in 2015. So much about today’s still life styling trend reflects elements of 1980s design, as well as the return of ’80s style through movements such as the New Memphis. Learn more about the use of simple materials in still life styling (marble, wood, metal and more) in this post.
I’m trying to get better at photography and styling when I shoot DIY projects and other features for Mirror80. This means weeding out less-than-quality images and trying to be more selective about the type of projects I share here on the blog. Here are two of my recent favorites.
Middle Row (L to R):
One thing you’ll see more of in 2015: Mirror80 field trips. I’m talking about taking my camera with me to different shops and destinations that showcase the kind of architecture and style I love to feature on the blog. In early January, I snapped some photos at The Arboretum in Austin, TX. This popular shopping destination is surrounded by office buildings. Did I mention that they were built in the ’80s? See the pics here.
How do you spend a quiet night in? Bringing retro style to everyday life is a passion of mine. This post revels in 1980s design and shares some ideas for making the most of a chilly winter evening.
I launched a new series this year called Spring Collection Spotlight. ’70s and ’80s motifs are alive and well in the new collections by brands such as CB2 and Urban Outfitters. The Spring/Summer 2015 Collection of ferm LIVING features some fabulous geometric pieces, such as the circular plant wall shown in the montage above.
Bottom Row (L to R)
This January, Mirror80’s focus on 1980s interior design reached a new level. ’80s design enthusiast Skylar Strickland sent a bunch of Florida real estate photos my way. These are images of current homes for sale. The exciting part: many of these dwellings haven’t been redecorated since the ’80s!
Finally, I’ve brought back our ’80s Music Video Land series, which dives into the style of music video faves from the Decade of Decadence. Not only is the series about celebrating the videos themselves, but also exploring new ways to bring the look and feel of each video home. In early February we featured “Give” by Missing Persons. The artwork you see in the montage above is from Katie B, available through Society6. A perfect example of a piece that reflects the video’s style!
There are many more great things to come from Mirror80 in 2015. Thanks for helping make the first part of the year a great one!
