Happy Valentine’s Day

February 13, 2015 by Kate Leave a Comment

Vibrant tulips

So we’re coming up on Valentine’s Day weekend, and I wanted to share a few of my recent photos with you. Let me start by saying that I know this is kind of a weird holiday. Like all holidays, it can be lonely if you’re missing somebody, and the heavy advertising at this time of year doesn’t help. With that said, I’ve always believed that Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to do something nice for yourself. And for the people you care about, including friends and family.

Pink tulips

I was single for a LONG time before I met Todd, my hubby. And when I was single and dating, I never seemed to be in a “happy relationship place” when February 14th rolled around. Lots of lonely Valentine’s Days, folks. So if this day is hard for you, I’m with you in spirit. The antidote: do something nice for yourself. Buy yourself some flowers. I’m partial to tulips. I purchased the flowers above for a few dollars at Trader Joe’s, and they’ve lasted all week.

Another way to make the most of Valentine’s Day: do something nice for someone else. If being creative rejuvenates you, try making something special for your friends. I created the valentines above and below with the help of card stock and cork shelf liner from Target. Again, a really affordable way to be festive.

Stuck on you, Valentine!

These valentines are “bulletin board chic.” You can find a full tutorial at Decoist. And finally…

Valentine's Day cocoa

Don’t forget about the treats. Yes, the advertising for this holiday can be obnoxious. But there’s a lot of great food around. I’m a fan of hot cocoa (even during the summer), and I made myself this drink a couple of days ago. Top off your cocoa with a festive straw, chocolate sprinkles and some sugar crystals around the rim.

'80s Valentine's Day

Have you noticed how Valentine’s Day is a holiday packed with ’80s-style visuals? It’s weird how there’s something inherently retro about it. Wishing you a relaxing weekend. If you enjoy Valentine’s Day, live it up! Have a Galentine’s Day celebration with friends. Spend time with your sweetie. If it’s not your favorite holiday, distract yourself with something you enjoy.

Stay tuned for a very special post on Monday featuring some AMAZING ’80s interiors. Until then….
