In today’s fashion shoot, I’ve combined one of my favorite motifs with one of my favorite settings. The grid of patterned tights meets the grid of endless windows as I share my latest retro-meets-modern ensemble in an Austin office park setting. I have to be honest–I find shopping for clothes to be a real struggle. I’m difficult to fit, and I’m the opposite of tall, so many times, clothing items need tweaking or altering to really work. I’m on a budget, so I have to really love something before I’ll buy it. Plus, my passion for interior design often distracts me from purchasing clothes. I can buy a new chrome vase that I know will work, or I can spend 3 hours going skirt shopping. Again. You can see where this is going!
So it’s clear that I need to make an effort in the fashion arena. Which is why once a month I’ll be sharing a new ensemble with you. Today’s outfit of choice follows a simple formula: black shirt + colorful skirt + grid-patterned tights = fun combination!

Does architecture ever inspire your fashion choices? I love office buildings designed and built in the late ’80s and early ’90s. When I put together today’s featured outfit, the building below came to mind as a photo shoot site…

- Tights: American Apparel
- Shoes: Blowfish (several years old)
- Necklace: a Mirror80 creation!
To be totally honest, the only new item in today’s shoot is the skirt. The other items were already in my closet. Sometimes one new piece can refresh a handful of old ones. And spawn a variety of new outfit possibilities.
Now that’s something to celebrate!
