1980s Interior Design Inspiration: The ’80s Bedroom

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! Have I mentioned that I’m slowly giving my bedroom an ’80s makeover? I’m on a tight budget, so let me emphasize the word “slowly.” Sometimes hunting for true bargains takes time. This past weekend I found a great piece of ’80s modern art for the space, but there’s still much to be done. I’m currently gathering inspiration from two of my favorite 1980s design books, and I thought I’d share some of my favorite pics with you…

The first two featured images are from Decoration and Design for the 80’s by Pamela Ferguson. At the top of the post we see a minimalist bedroom with a potted palm. I’d love to incorporate some greenery into my ’80s bedroom, but the plants will have to be low-light selections. Below we see another 1980s boudoir. Aren’t the columns amazing? For my space, I’m interested in that cylinder-shaped side table by the bed. I love its sleek simplicity.

The next two images come from The Decorating Book by Mary Gilliatt, aka my ’80s design bible! There’s a LOT to admire in the space below, including the rich blue color, the recessed lighting and those vertical blinds. I love the way the bed is made with the pillows tucked into the comforter. I remember trying to emulate that technique in my room as a kid in the ’80s…

Last but not least, we showcase this green and white 1980s bedroom featuring a plethora of diagonal lines. If you read about my ’80s fireplace makeover, you know how much I love diagonal lines. I’ll use any excuse to feature them in my bedroom makeover!
