This year, my hubby and I moved into our first home. There was a bit of work that needed to be done on the place, so we focused on the not-so-fun improvements first. Since we’re on a budget, we’ve needed to do a little at a time. I’ll be sharing pics of our place as we put the finishing touches on each room. If you’ve been reading Mirror80 this fall, you know that I’ve found some bargain items at antique malls, thrift stores and an antique festival. Time to put those finds to good use! We installed mirrors in our bathrooms last week (finally), so I thought I’d start by sharing these spaces with you…

’80s DIY art in a modern bathroom

When we moved in, the countertops in the bathrooms were dark yellow cultured marble (with white swirls). There were also heavy mirrors with antique gold frames hanging over the sinks. It looked a bit intense, and we knew it was time for a little makeover. So we had the counters replaced with all-white cultured marble, which is affordable and gives the space a clean, crisp look. In fact, it was really important to me not to clutter the bathrooms. The inspiration for the bathroom you see above was the white spherical Toyo vase with a Deco-style ribbon design (shown above and below). I was thrilled to find this piece at Etsy shop Vintage Lanie. ’80s spherical vases

There’s another bathroom at our place, and we’re still figuring out how to finish that room, so I won’t do a grand tour just yet! But I WILL share a few details in the montage below, mixed in with some shots of the bathroom fully featured in today’s post. My inspiration for these rooms was ’80s Deco style–sweeping curves, straight lines, crystal pieces that catch the light, and of course, a plethora of tropical greenery…

The shower curtain you see above… It’s a Martha Stewart design. Yes, Martha Stewart! I don’t know if she intentionally went ’70s/’80s for this piece or if it was a fluke, but you can’t imagine how excited I was when I found it! Read all about it here. I’ll leave you with a shot of crystalline decor. The swan is an ’80s piece by Gloria Vanderbilt. The bowl is a Mikasa find–it could be fairly new, along with the ring holder. I love the way these pieces form a vignette of clear-cut style…
