Today I’m sharing some fun ’80s nostalgia pics, thanks to a few creative designers and DIY bloggers who’ve put a new spin on retro style. These photos are a backdrop for a different kind of post. I tend not to write too much about life behind the scenes, but this winter has been particularly challenging.
This ’80s/’90s Chillout playlist overlaps a little bit with Mirror80’s ’80s Sophistipop playlist, especially with selections like Swingout Sister’s “Twilight World”. If you’re a fan of all things New Order, you may recognize the photos in this post as a nod to cover art from Bernard Sumner’s side project with Neil Tennant and Johnny Marr: Electronic.
‘Tis the season for pastels! With winter soon giving way to spring and Valentine’s Day around the corner, reveling in soft candy colors has never been sweeter. First up: a palette featuring confetti, cotton candy, and a hint of stardust sparkle.
’80s restaurant design is the perfect arena for learning about design and decor trends from the Decade of Decadence. Why? Because commercial spaces were often far more over the top than residential interiors!
Before we leap into 2018, I wanted to take a look back at some of my very favorite posts of 2017! Thank you for making this year such a stellar one. Keep reading for highlights from the past 12 months, complete with photos and links to the original posts.
It’s that time again! The Holidays are here, and if you’re shopping for the people you care about (or you’re interested in retro-modern trends), today’s post is for you. The 2017 Mirror80 Gift Guide includes a range of new items that channel the past in a fresh, sleek way.
During the holiday season of 2016, Saturday Night Live featured a song-filled video titled “The Christmas Candle”. The premise: an out-of-season peach candle is “re-gifted ’round the world in just one day.” This video inspired today’s candle swap, complete with retro-style candles that channel the ’80s and ’90s!
The holidays are almost here, we’re getting ready to feast…it’s just a decadent time of the year, am I right?! So I thought this was the perfect time to share another music video playlist. This one is PACKED WITH DECADENCE, from the golden set of Simple Minds’ “Glittering Prize” to the food-heaped table of INXS’ “The One Thing”.
Welcome to Mirror80’s Thank You for Being a Friend-sgiving!!! Because there’s no other way to host friends this Turkey Day. Taking inspiration from The Golden Girls (is there any other ’80s sitcom to reference for this holiday?!), the ambience is part tropical and part glitz, all capped off with a warm glow.
Get ready for the ultimate in alien terror…masquerading as a pom pom craft. Remember the Weepuls?! If you grew up in the ’80s, you know these google-eyed, sticky foam-footed creatures well. Today’s post is all about nostalgia, complete with a Halloween twist. Read on for all the details on making your own DIY Weepuls, plus a little bit of ’80s horror movie trivia!
