Feeling festive? If you’re looking to add some ’80s style to your next party, this post is for you! All of today’s featured party ideas come from our Retro Foodie series, and we take pride in presenting unique variations of the typical ’80s theme–call it ’80s with a twist! In fact, many of today’s featured party ideas incorporate modern elements, such as the current marble and pastel trends. Browse the ideas below, and don’t forget to click on the links under each heading to access the original post in which each image appeared. Now time to celebrate…
Party Idea #1: Confetti and Color
At the top of the post we see an image from Mirror80’s 3rd Birthday Party. The theme here: confetti and color. Deck the walls and ceiling with vibrant balloons, hit the thrift store for some affordable plates with elements of Memphis-Milano style, and use tropical greenery as your centerpiece. Don’t forget the confetti! On the menu: fresh fruit (pictured above), tangy tostadas and more. Click here for a glimpse of the mood board that inspired our event.
Party Idea #2: Time to Make the Donuts
Inspired by Dunkin’ Donuts commercials, this Pastel Party features ’80s geometric dishware, plus modern accents such as marble, pastels and homemade drink stirrers. Serve coffee and donuts (don’t forget the whipped cream and sprinkles), then add some salty snack food to balance out the dessert factor. Check out our donut party mood board for additional ideas.
Party Idea #3: ’80s Glam
If you’re hosting a viewing party for a decadent event (such as the Oscars), this ’80s Awards Show Party theme will get the job done. Key factors in pulling off the look: An ’80s Deco vase and pearlescent balloons that give the appearance of bubbles. Purples, pinks and lavenders take center stage here, as do colorful appetizers and other delicious nibbles.
Party Idea #4: Neon Noir Night
Last summer we staged a Neon Noir Party shoot, complete tropical greenery, glow sticks (for after dark) , and a signature drink called the Neon Flamingo. Our ’80s summer party Pinterest board will show you the images and motifs that inspired this gathering. Crank up the opening credits of Drive, close the mini blinds and get ready to party, neon-style!
Party Idea #5: Bring on the Sprinkles
Originally imagined as a Valentine’s Day Dessert Buffet, this ’80s party idea is filled with cupcakes, sprinkles, cookies, candy and plenty of color. Yes, it’s all about the dessert, and the key is making everything look good enough to eat–even the non-food items! Here’s the mood board that inspired this fete.
Party Idea #6: Yuppie Cocktail Hour
Our final party idea involves martinis, as well as fancy appetizers, from stuffed mushrooms to geometric fruit skewers. Marble tiles and a metal planter create the lobby look, a necessity for this Yuppie Cocktail Party. Check out our party mood board for more decadent details, including foodie displays of extravagance!
