Hi Everyone! I’m hoping this email finds you starting to at least get the beginnings of warm weather wherever you are. Today we focus on some seasonal happenings and other recent developments that prove spring is in full bloom, ’80s-style! Get ready to revel in 1980s design–perhaps it will inspire you to make some refreshing changes to your abode. And maybe you can even reward yourself with tickets to an upcoming concert…
’80s-Style Bathrooms!
Today we visit a few homes that haven’t been renovated in at least two decades. And unlike the folks at Ugly House Photos, we think the featured bathrooms in today’s post are pretty freakin’ awesome. Who needs granite countertops and dark wooden cabinets when you have patterned tile and bathtubs in any color but white? Thank goodness the fine folks who owned these homes left them alone, because now we have a pure glimpse into our favorite decade and the powder rooms that decorated it.
’80s Teal Power
Happy Friday, Everyone! We’re commemorating the end of the week by reveling in teal finds with ’80s flair. It’s been fun watching this color make a comeback. In the 1980s, it was often paired with peach and mauve. Today we see it juxtaposed with black and crisp white, or accented with brights such as yellow and orange. We love the teal pieces above because of their ’80s style. Can you find trendier items for sale? Sure. But this post celebrates the past as much as the present…
Lobby Luxe Style
We at Mirror80 have made no secret of our love for lobby style. Call is Lobby Sleek, Lobby Chic, or Lobby Luxe, this look in some ways never left. Office buildings and hotels today still feature metallic planters and dramatic sculptures. Marble tile graces many a bank entry. And who doesn’t love a piece of geometric abstract art? We’re already planning our next foodie event, and this lobby grandeur is a style that we could get excited about. Now we just need some yuppie-fabulous recipes to complete the evening…
A Retro Kind of Love
A 7-foot champagne glass full of bubble bath. A bouquet of pink and red flowers. A plate of food perched dangerously near the edge of the bed. These are the ingredients for a romantic weekend in the Poconos if pictures tell the truth. In what can only be described as a blogger’s dream, I accidentally came across today’s retro-fabulous pictures while researching an article on 2-seater bathtubs for my awesome Decoist gig. Yes, all of the pictures for today’s post are from Cove Haven Entertainment Resorts. And from the looks of these pics, they haven’t been updated since the early ’90s. The same seems to be true of the rooms. Pure design bliss!
A New Retro Design Vignette in Dreamy Hues
This week we’re reveling in candy colors and dreamy motifs. Today we present a vignette of contemporary items that can’t help but ooze New Retro style, with a heavy focus on 1980s flair. Isn’t it amazing that you can piece together an ’80s-style interior with entirely new items? We think so!
I Dream of Tumblrs With ’80s Style
Aren’t we lucky to be living at a time when Tumblr has made dreamy images so accessible? In fact, if you’re into a style I call the “new retro,” you have a true appreciation for ’70s, ’80s and ’90s design. And so do today’s featured Tumblrs. In fact, their curators have a keen eye for collecting old and new images that are steeped in retro style, and we continue this week’s “dreamy” theme by showing you the best of the best.
’80s-Style Sconce Lighting
Fifteen years ago, I came across a book about lighting. It had been published in the ’80s, and it spoke extensively about how 1980s lighting (especially sconces) were largely influenced by Art Deco designs. If the book hadn’t been in a library, I would have bought it! I was still a student, but even then, I was obsessed with the ’80s, and this was the first time I’d consciously linked that decade with Art Deco. My mind was blown! Today we feature sconces that can’t help but look ’80s (and ’20s). Some are old and some are new. All are awesome…
An ’80s Interior Design Round-Up
Happy Monday, Everyone! This past weekend, I was scanning the internet for ’80s design images, and I came across a few great finds. Like this Miami commercial interior from B-Pila Design Studio. OK, so it’s not “hit you over the head” ’80s, and any resemblance to our favorite decade is likely unintentional. But the geometric carpet, pastel shades and unique lighting certainly have a 1920s-meets-1980s vibe! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
’80s Style in the Waiting Room
There are some amazing things happening in the world of waiting room design! In fact, some waiting rooms are leaping into the future with innovative furnishings, diverse materials and edgy motifs. Others are a bit stuck in the past. And we’re totally OK with that! You know that wonderful feeling you get when you visit your dentist’s office, and you realize his ’80s Southwestern art and furniture are now back in style? Yeah, we love that feeling too! Today’s post celebrates the beauty of slightly out-of-date waiting areas.
