Happy Monday, Everyone! As I’m wrapping up the finishing touches on my bedroom makeover (stay tuned for plenty of photos next week), my attention is now turning to the living room. There’s just enough “stuff” in this space to make it functional, but I’m needing to add a few more pieces that will complete the look. There are two possible directions I can take: ultra-bright, or colorful with a dash of swanky. I’m a bit stumped! Today we explore the ultra-bright arena, thanks to some amazing images from my favorite retro design Tumblrs. Enjoy!
Happy Friday, Everyone! When the end of the week comes, I really feel like going into “escape” mode. Today we escape into the world of swanky ’80s interiors, thanks to my favorite new Tumblr DRY DOCK SHOP. Seriously–have you checked out this Tumblr, folks?! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It does for ’80s interior design what 80s ART does for the art of our favorite decade! The images are sourced, the featured interiors come from the best magazines and design books of the ’70s and ’80s, and the catalog is comprehensive. Really comprehensive!
Hi Everyone! Today we begin a new series called Retro Roundup. Every couple of weeks, we’ll take a look at the latest news and creative endeavors of the “recent retro” nature. This includes items from decades past, as well as new ways that retro style is emerging in today’s world of fashion, art, design and pop culture. Kind of a “check this out” celebration! We also invite you to add your discoveries in the comments section below. And now for our first installment…
Happy Wednesday, Everyone! The week is half over, and I’m already planning some new art projects for the rapidly approaching weekend. I’ll admit that today’s featured finds are a bit out of my budget at this point in time, but they completely inspire me in my creative projects. Do you ever look to high-end design items for retro-meets-modern inspiration? I couldn’t be more excited to share these stunning pieces from Matter, a New York-based shop that also offers their furniture, lighting and decor online.
For quite some time now, I’ve been completely obsessed with shopping malls built in the 1980s. Some are still going strong, like the mall a few miles from my home. I often walk around this two-story building, reveling in pockets of retro goodness, thanks to department stores that haven’t remodeled since the decade of decadence. Then there are the abandoned malls, like another one close to home that’s increasingly closed off, thanks to an upcoming project that will likely destroy any remaining traces of the ‘80s.
Happy March, Mirror80 Readers! We’re definitely a few days into a new month, and we have some fun features in store. But first we wanted to take a minute and reflect on some of our favorite February posts. Over the past few weeks, we’ve spent quality time crafting new DIY creations, reflecting on sources of inspiration for ’80s design projects, exploring some exciting new fashion and decor offerings with retro style, and connecting with others who are celebrating a love for the decade of decadence through their own unique endeavors. Check out the images and links that follow, and be sure to visit any February posts you may have missed!
Happy Friday, Everyone! Did you have a nice Christmas? Today I wanted to share one of my favorite holiday gifts. Actually, it’s a gift my hubby and I purchased for our cat–the Kitty City Jungle Gym! We actually spotted this fabulous find on a trip to Target well before the holidays, and we instantly knew this was “the gift” for our little pride and joy. True selling points: the cozy cubes, the pastel motifs, the black netting, and the general feel that this feline playground was confiscated from the set of Saved by the Bell. You know, if the main characters had been cats…
