Scrambling to accessorize?! I wanted to share this quick reminder that it can be as easy as mixing a few retro pieces with a handful of new items. Plus, I’ll never turn down the chance to celebrate one of my favorite color combinations: pink and teal!

’80s Patterns and Prints

In light of recent developments, I thought I’d take another look at one of my favorite books: 1980s Fashion Print by Marnie Fogg. Here are a few patterns that seem as relevant today as they did back in the ’80s!…

’80s Fashion Shoot: Grids and Office Parks

September 8, 2014 by Kate 2 Comments

In today’s fashion shoot, I’ve combined one of my favorite motifs with one of my favorite settings. The grid of patterned tights meets the grid of endless windows as I share my latest retro-meets-modern ensemble in an Austin office park setting. Get ready for columns, reflective glass, gleaming metal, and one colorful ensemble…

Bloc Necklaces from Ladies & Gentlemen Studio

July 9, 2014 by Kate Leave a Comment

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! This will be the first of several posts featuring the mind-blowing creations of Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, the Seattle-based design studio founded by Dylan Davis and Jean Lee. We love the way their pieces celebrate the magical pairing of bold geometry and powerful materials such as metal, marble and mirrors. The offerings: home decor, lighting, jewelry and more. And speaking of jewelry, there’s nothing like a good geo necklace!

Etsy on a Budget: ’80s Finds for $10 or Less!

July 8, 2014 by Kate Leave a Comment

Over the long weekend, I found an old Etsy gift card with a remaining balance of $12.57. The ’80s on Television: Halt and Catch Fire

June 4, 2014 by Kate Leave a Comment

Anyone else already hooked on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire? This new series follows a trio of tech-savvy pioneers who reverse engineer an IBM computer in the hopes of joining the PC revolution and transforming 1980s tech culture in the process. Yes, this show occupies the time slot that Mad Men left behind. Is it possible that AMC got wind of our dream ’80s television series, Rad Men? OK, not so likely. But that doesn’t mean we don’t already love their newest foray into the realm of pop culture history. There are many reasons to watch Halt and Catch Fire. Here are our top four:

Mirror80 April Highlights

May 6, 2014 by Kate Leave a Comment

Hi Everyone! April was a busy month for us here at Mirror80. We spent a week reveling in a marble-infused style we like to call “Lobby Chic,” we began planning our next Retro Foodie photo shoot, and I (Kate) was featured in a Designer Profile that highlighted the style and mission of Mirror80. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!…

’80s Family Photos

May 5, 2014 by Kate Leave a Comment

Were you a kid in the ’80s? Or perhaps you grew up at a later time but love the fashion from the Decade of Decadence… Either way, you’ll really love today’s featured pics. Let’s just say they’re fabulous precisely because they are so sincere. I look back at some of my most awkward childhood family photos, and none of them combined a high level of staging with the best trends of the 1980s quite like the pics that follow. And speaking of Awkward Family Photos, nearly all of today’s featured images come from this popular site!
