How’s your November going? Mine has been much busier than usual, and as plans for Thanksgiving are underway, I’ve started thinking about the importance of enjoying some quiet reflection this month. Celebrating with the entire family is an amazing experience that I would never give up, but it’s also fun to take some time with friends, or even smaller groups of family members. Fall dinner parties are one of my favorite endeavors, and today we dream up an ’80s-style Thanksgiving palette for our next Retro Foodie photo shoot. Use it for Thanksgiving dinner, or for a smaller gathering of loved ones this fall! Read on for more details…

A Fall Retro Foodie Mood Board
Happy Friday, Everyone! It’s still 100 degrees here in Texas, so when I went to the grocery store and saw the bins of pumpkins out front, it was a bit hard to get into the spirit of the new season. The ’80s Connection: Skylar Strickland
Recently I’ve had the pleasure of striking up a correspondence with Skylar Strickland, an expert on the topic of 1980s design. His vast knowledge on the decade’s best interiors, decor trends and product design quickly became evident, especially when he gave me a glimpse of his extensive collection of design links, images and finds. While growing up in Florida, Skylar lived in a home filled with cutting-edge ’80s treasures. Meanwhile, many of us who were kids during that time grew up in locations where that detailed level of artful 1980s design was… well, let’s just say it wasn’t happening. What was it like being at the center of the decade’s design best? Let’s find out by talking with an expert who isn’t afraid to share his opinion…

Beauty Is Embarrassing
This weekend at the South by Southwest Film Festival I was lucky to see Neil Berkeley’s documentary Beauty Is Embarrassing. This film tells the engaging story of artist Wayne White, who designed sets and puppets for the hit ’80s children’s show Pee Wee’s Playhouse. But White’s work on this beloved series is just the beginning of his amazing career…
