If you’re looking for a little bit of retro Christmas inspiration, head on over to our latest Mirror80 holiday Pinterest board, filled with images from Mirror80 Christmases past and present. The Art of Landry McMeans
While at the Blue Genie Art Bazaar in Austin, Texas this past weekend, I came across the artwork of Landry McMeans. It was love at first sight! Maybe it’s the 3-D effect created by cardboard relief. Or perhaps it’s the prevalence of gradients, mini blind motifs and Southwestern landscapes. Calling it ’80s-style art would be oversimplifying the diversity of each piece. Yet for those who love retro style, there are definite themes that you will recognize from years gone by.
The Mirror80 2013 Holiday Gift Guide
If you’re like us, you may be doing some last-minute online Christmas shopping this weekend… There’s still plenty of time to shop in stores, but if you want your goodies shipped to your door, now is the time to make your final selections. For your convenience, we’ve put together The 2013 Mirror80 Holiday Gift Guide, filled with goodies that boast a touch of ’80s style. These are new items with retro flair. Don’t forget about the wonder of vintage ’80s and ’90s finds, available through online sources such as eBay and Etsy. But for today, we turn our attention to the brand new, and we’ve honored a range of price points and budgets. Happy shopping, and Happy Holidays from Mirror80!
The Cherry Alignment by Annabel Schofield
Last November, I had the pleasure of interviewing author, actress, director, producer and supermodel extraordinaire Annabel Schofield! Glamorous, charismatic and wonderfully down to earth, this international fashion model of the 1980s starred in ad campaigns for Revlon, Gianni Versace, Yves St. Laurent and Levi’s (to name a few), and you probably remember her from that iconic Bugle Boy Jeans commercial… At the time of our interview (which you can read here and here), Annabel had written a novel called The Cherry Alignment. This tasty read is now available in its entirety on Amazon.com, and we’d like to once again congratulate Annabel on her literary achievement!
A Retro New Year’s Celebration
Greetings! I’m in the midst of planning this weekend’s Retro Foodie photo shoot. It’s a New Year’s celebration–with an ’80s twist. The plan is to incorporate lots of silver and gold, as well as a hot shade of teal. For an accent color, what would go better with teal than mauve? But we’re updating things a bit with one of today’s hot blushing colors: rose gold. Hints of pink will be evident in details like truffles and a signature champagne cocktail I’m perfecting. Read on for more details and inspiration…
Retro Holiday Style
Happy Monday, Everyone! With last week’s surgery behind me, I’m now officially ready for the holidays! Stay tuned for some fun blog posts in the coming days, from the Mirror80 Gift Guide to a book release from one of our favorite ’80s insiders. I thought I’d start the week by sharing some pics with you. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at my place, and I’ve had fun decking the halls and the walls with retro-style decor that complements the space. Geometric art is abundant in our living room, so we wanted a tree with bright ornaments that celebrate the whimsy of ultra-colorful ’80s design. We enjoyed creating a timeless modern look that fit our home…
Video Pick: “Like a Surgeon” by Weird Al Yankovic
Folks, it’s been a crazy week! Tomorrow I’m having outpatient surgery. Not a big deal, but the paperwork and appointments involved have been a bit time consuming! I’ve actually been too busy to worry about the procedure, which is probably a good thing. When it sinks in that I’ll be on the operating table tomorrow, I’ll be watching this Weird Al Yankovic video for a few laughs…
