There’s definitely something holographic going on… If you read design blogs, you may have noticed the appearance of items such as holographic pillows, party decorations and manicures. This holographic trend inspired today’s photo shoot!
It’s officially February, which means it’s time to photograph my collection of ’80s ceramics! There are so many Valentine’s Day visuals that can’t help but channel ’80s style. It’s hard not to love this holiday. With that said, I find that any holiday dedicated to celebrating a certain stage of life (coupledom, parenthood, etc.) can be challenging for those who are yearning for that stage and not a part of it yet, or those who are experiencing it but going through a hard time. I’m all for happy distractions at this time of the year, so bring on the valentine swans…
Happy Monday, Everyone! Just wanted to share a few projects I’ve been working on lately. As you can see from the photo above, today’s post is all about color…with a dash of tropical style. I’ve been spending a LOT of time outdoors working on DIY projects these past few weeks. There’s nothing like spring to inspire creativity! This weekend I enjoyed a sunny Saturday with family in South Padre, a barrier island along the Texas Gulf Coast. Whenever I visit a beach town, I have my camera ready to snap photos of sea and surf, tropical accents, and of course, souvenirs of the neon variety. And speaking of souvenirs, we found ourselves at Bobz World in Los Fresnos (on the way to South Padre). It’s impossible to describe this retail outlet, which also features a jungle-style garden, an arcade, and black light mini golf and mini bowl opportunities. So I’ll paint a picture with photos. Rad-tastic photos!!!

For our spring Retro Foodie shoot, we present a Pastel Party featuring coffee, donuts, confetti, sprinkles and loads of geometry! While this ’80s-style party concept would be ideal for a weekend brunch, we enjoyed the goodies as an afternoon snack. Nothing like beating the mid-day slump with a little caffeine and sugar. Anyone watching the Oscars this Sunday? I’m a bit of a film enthusiast… I never miss a South by Southwest Film Festival, and I totally nerded out in high school and college while studying film by watching movies during my free time and taking notes. I love the Academy Awards, especially since it combines film with a chance to entertain–one of my other passions. So it makes sense that over the course of Mirror80’s history, I’ve put together a few photo shoots for party concepts that can double as Oscar night fetes. Today we look back at the top 3. Enjoy!

About a year ago, I began corresponding with Arturo Bozeman Hernandez, a California entrepreneur who shares my love of 1980s design. One of the many things that impressed me at that time was his knowledge of ’80s graphic design. Then I became aware of the impressive level of detail Art puts into his own creations, particularly when it comes to the graphic design for Rocksteady Fitness, the business he owns with his lovely wife Melissa (he is the Marketing and Operations Manager and she is the Head Trainer). With locations in Ventura and Oxnard, California, Rocksteady offers personal training, group classes and massage therapy.
