Ah, back to school season in the ’80s. When the biggest dilemma was whether or not to help your nerdy classmate become popular in exchange for a payment of $1,000. This is child’s play compared to the angst and parental guilt that this year’s pandemic back-to-school season has unleashed. It’s time to escape again, and nostalgia is here for you.
Today I’m kicking off a new decade of blogging by launching Camp Mirror80. Whether you’re stuck at home or venturing out on a regular basis, chances are life as we know it is going to look different for awhile. Enjoy an immersive experience that will surround you with ’80s style and a comforting TV favorite!
This month Mirror80 turned 10!!! That means I’ve been blogging for a decade. It’s pretty surreal to think about how much has changed since 2010. Not only are we now in the middle of a global pandemic, we’re also in the middle of an ’80s design renaissance.
There are times when I’ve wondered if writing about something so niche is a bit self-indulgent. When people ask about my blog, they either get it or they don’t. I can’t tell you the number of conversations that have been cut short because I mentioned blogging about ’80s design and pop culture. Yet in the midst of this rapidly changing, worldwide COVID-19 crisis, I’ve come to realize that the things we love most are the things we should cling to when faced with uncertainty.
Happy February!! Valentine’s Day is around the corner. It’s a complicated holiday, isn’t it?! Because of my love for ’80s design, even my worst Valentine’s Days were filled with some joy. Because there will always be an element of 1980s style that lives in this holiday. It’s time to create some ’80s-style valentine cards to give to your nearest and dearest, and these splatter paint valentines couldn’t be easier to make…
