We celebrated last week with an ’80s-themed party, and we’re sharing our ’80s-tastic ideas with you for today’s post. Here are three party themes that will suit the ’80s mood you’d like to evoke:
In our last post, we celebrated the Memphis-Milano influence on Christian Diors Fall-Winter Haute Couture Collection. From candy colors to edgy geometry, the ’80s motifs were abundant on the catwalk. But if you thought the ’80s fun ended there, think again!
Neon lighting–check. Glass block–check. Bright hues and geometric design referencing the Memphis-Milano movement–check. Throw in a dash of 1950s malt-shop, and you have the ’80s teen hangout in all of it’s glory!
These last few weeks, Mirror80 has spent time exploring 1980s tribal and jungle styles, which often overlap. From colorful energetic patterns to palm leaf-laden music video sets, the ’80s gone wild evoked by both jungle- and tribal-inspired visuals is filled with intense hues, vegetation-rich patterns and bold geometry.

Shortly before Mirror 80 was born, I began a voracious search for ’80s fashion and interior design resources on the internet. I was soon delighted to find an extensive collection of ’80s art and design items at The 80’s Gallery, Katie Cobler and Ken McGavin’s online gallery featuring jewelry, lighting, original artwork and other amazing collectibles, from sculpture to pottery.
In our last post, expert vendor Bill Goodpasture from Austin’s Room Service Vintage helped us wade through some obstacles facing collectors of ‘80s furniture and home décor items.
While some 1980s pieces are made of less than sturdy material and feature color combinations that people either love or hate, the relatively short time span separating the ‘80s from today may also be responsible for the fact that we are still hard-pressed to find many houses decked out wall to wall in 1980s décor.
