Hi Everyone! Just wanted to check in one more time with some design-worthy Thanksgiving ideas to put you in a fall mood–with a retro twist, of course! First up: a collection of wall hangings that put a modern spin on ’70s style. Above (left) we see the beginnings of a wall hanging I created for Decoist using nothing but yarn and a copper pipe! My inspiration: the unique fall floral wreath from Design Love Fest (above, top right) and these fabulous yarn banners from Creativebug (above, bottom right).
A Retro-Modern Bedroom Tour
Today I’m excited to share a tour of my ’80s-style bedroom. I’ve been talking about this post for quite some time, and I really wanted everything to be perfect before posting an official tour. Then I realized that it was more important to share the space than to wait for it to reach a level of design perfection, or to wait until my budget matched my taste! Does your interior evolve over time? Consider this an ever-evolving space, with this being one phase of the process…
Mirror80 Featured by Terry’s Fabrics
Today I’m excited to share a Creative Trends profile that Terry’s Fabrics published today on their blog! For the full feature, which provides a zoomed-in version of the images and text above, click here. Terry’s Fabrics offers a range of home design and decor products, including bedding, curtain fabrics, rugs, homewares and more. When they asked me to share my top picks for trends in furniture, colors and materials, I jumped at the chance. Talk about design? Absolutely! Colorful ’70s and ’80s Interior Design Possibilities
Happy Monday, Everyone! As I’m wrapping up the finishing touches on my bedroom makeover (stay tuned for plenty of photos next week), my attention is now turning to the living room. There’s just enough “stuff” in this space to make it functional, but I’m needing to add a few more pieces that will complete the look. There are two possible directions I can take: ultra-bright, or colorful with a dash of swanky. I’m a bit stumped! Today we explore the ultra-bright arena, thanks to some amazing images from my favorite retro design Tumblrs. Enjoy!
New ’80s Design Finds
Happy Friday! Do you have a wish list? I’ve started keeping one, not even for the purpose of acquiring everything on it, but to help track my favorite new design finds with ’80s flair. Many are super affordable, and for those that aren’t, if I really keep tabs on these products, I can score a couple of them for amazing prices when they go on sale. Other times, I decide to make my own version of my wish list items, DIY-style.
Pastel Accessories and Decor with Memphis-Milano Style
One of my favorite aspects of Memphis-Milano design is the shocking combination of colors. When bright red meets lavender and aqua, pure magic is created. But what about the picture-perfect blend of pastels with a dash of vivid yellow? Today’s featured finds celebrate the tropical-toned side of Memphis, when everything comes together in a soothing blend, yet there’s just enough geometry and offbeat radiance to wake you up. Check out these fabulous new offerings…
More Amazing New Memphis Finds
Every day I come across new Memphis-style products, photo shoots and clothing items. I cant tell you how long I’ve waited to see 1980s design make a comeback on this level. Not to mention, geometry itself is one of today’s major design motifs (hello geo!), so it makes sense that the current creative climate would embrace all things Memphis–and reinterpret this design movement in delightfully unexpected ways!
Memphis-Milano Pottery from Recreation Center
Of all the ’80s interior design styles to make a comeback, Memphis-Milano has been the most popular. By far! In fact, a new take on this cutting-edge design movement has evolved–a style we at Mirror80 like to call the New Memphis. Today’s post celebrates the fact that New Memphis design has found its way to the world of ceramics, thanks to Recreation Center. Ready to see more?…
Mirror80’s Most Popular Post
Three years ago, I lovingly wrote a post called “1980s Interior Design Styles”, which included a breakdown of movements and motifs such as ’80s Deco and Memphis-Milano. Over time, this little piece has become Mirror80’s most popular post! Not to mention, in the three years since the post was published, 1980s design has officially made a comeback, thanks to the still life revival, a new focus on Memphis design, and the rise of the ’80s Tumblr. It’s definitely time to update our most popular post with a host of new images and the latest in interior design trends…
A Tropical Party by Somewhere…with Pool Toys!
Yes, fall is here, but ever since tropical style has made its big comeback, it’s a year-round thing as far as I’m concerned. Not just for summers! Do you agree?! That’s why when I came across today’s featured party (from Somewhere), I knew it was perfect for Mirror80 readers to ooh and aah over. Another key ingredient in this tropical revival: pool toys. Yes, pool toys! Remember our post on the still life photography of Richie Talboy? Or yesterday’s post on the 3D illustration of Anny Wang? Beach balls and noodles are in. And this party maximizes their decorative possibilities…
