Happy Wednesday! I wanted to take some time today and check in with all of you. Since the start of the new year, I’ve been making an effort to include more original photo shoots here at Mirror80. I’ve rounded up some of my favorites below. It goes without saying that every week I’ll continue to post lots of original design photos from the ’80s (many of them from my favorite 1980s design books). But I want to know what you’ve enjoyed in terms of original shoots. What are your favorites? The still life shoots? The photos that show you how to get the ’80s look at home? DIY projects? Recipes? Scroll through the images below, then tell me what you want to see more of by leaving a comment at the bottom of the post.

Retro-Modern Still Life Styling

One of my favorite photo shoot concepts involves combining old and new items in still life vignettes. Here are some of my favorites…

Teatime, Retro-Style

Old teapots. New teapots. Confetti. Geometry. Chocolate.

Holographic Style

Holographic paper is the perfect backdrop for rock candy and crystals:

Valentine Vibes

It’s amazing what you can find at thrift stores. And why do so many ’80s treasures naturally evoke Valentine’s Day style?…

Retro Design Tips

I also enjoy using photo shoots as a way to illustrate different design techniques. You know, if you want to bring the ’80s look home!

DIY Ideas

I love a good DIY project! Some are filled with ’80s style. Some are modern. All are fun and easy.

A Pastel Air Plant Terrarium

Origami paper and colorful sand and are your friends for this dreamy project:

Mix it, match it and stack it. Create your own Memphis-style totems with everyday items:

Retro-Style Recipes

If you’ve followed my Retro Foodie series, you know how much I love to entertain and prepare interesting food as part of the process. Sometimes the recipes involve edibles that were popular in the ’80s, and sometimes it’s the styling alone that makes the food “retro”…

A Mint Milkshake with a Kick

It’s all about the sprinkles…

Shamrock milkshakes

Licorice sprinkles

A Cadbury Creme Egg Sundae

Hello, Cadbury Creme Eggs! This is the first in a series of recipes based on junk food items that were popular in the ’80s:

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!!! Tell me which types of shoots you want to see more of in the future: retro-modern still life styling, retro design tips (getting the ’80s look at home), DIY projects or easy recipes. You can even mention specific shoots/posts if you like. Leave me a comment below…

They’re all vibrant and fun. But for some reason, I’m especially drawn to any of them that include plants.

Thank you for your comment, Sean! I’m definitely plant-obsessed, so there will be plenty of future shoots with greenery. So glad to know you enjoy them!
