During Mirror80’s first year, we featured a post on ’80s vanity style. You know–the surface of a dresser or counter, often filled with those pretty little items we use for grooming, with some extra baubles thrown in. Today we update that piece by taking another look at the ’80s vanity. And we start by going glam! Stay tuned for a second vanity piece next week, when we’ll get a little more playful and colorful with our ’80s style…
While writing this week’s Style Icon post featuring Berlin lead singer Terri Nunn, I couldn’t help but admire her ’80s glam vanity from the music video “Sex (I’m A),” pictured to the left.
A couple of perfume bottles, some necklaces and a tube of lipstick go a long way, don’t you think?! This got me thinking about the concept of a vanity, especially the ’80s vanity. In the 1980s, decadence reached a whole new level. What a perfect way to combine the style of my favorite decade with the inevitable need for grooming… So we took a shot at it with a palette of black, white, pink and gold!
For the DIY details on signature components of an ’80s vanity, check out this previous post. In a nutshell, you can include makeup and jewelry, as well as vintage finds, such as perfume bottles, accessories, vases and figurines.
Let’s turn our attention back to the image at the top of the post… The ’80s Deco vase, Gloria Vanderbilt crystal swan and perfume bottles are all antique mall and Goodwill purchases. The bracelet is the super-affordable Sleek Tritone Curb Chain Bracelet from Forever21. The flat-beaded necklace is a vintage Etsy find. And let’s hear it for L’Oreal lipstick, which continues to feature a packaging concept that may as well be from the ’80s.
Stay tuned for next week’s ’80s vanity post, which will celebrate all things cute, colorful and youthful…

I was actually noticed her vanity and was thinking about this when I watched the video from the last post.
I’ve been looking for an 80’s-style lacquered vanity with the rounded edges and big circle mirror. So rare. So expensive!

These vanities remind me of Maddie Hayes’s decor in the Moonlighting tv series – her office, lounge & bedside table. She had collections of clear glass vases & ornaments, but set against pastel backgrounds.
