In “take two” of our ’80s photo shoot extravaganza, we travel to an office park where glass block and metal posts reign. Yes, folks, it may as well be 1985, and we’ve got the fashion to prove it! As a counterpart to our first featured ’80s photo shoot, Peter Tung of Peter Tung Photography organized yet another amazing shoot, this time featuring the modeling talents of the lovely Sarah Gardner of Kim Dawson Agency.
The shoot once again utilized the styling expertise of Matthew Klimek of MDK Styling, the hair and make-up talents of Trisha Vail from Russ and Company Salon, and sensational ’80s fashion from Austin, Texas vintage clothing shop New Bohemia. This time we were joined by Lecia Bates Harkins (owner of Russ and Company) for hair and makeup, as well as Darrin Cherry of Gallifrey Photography. In a grand shot by Peter Tung (shown below), we see the scope and scale of the glass block wall at our ’80s-tastic location!
Yes, from far away or close up, this office park provided the perfect backdrop to our ’80s adventure. It offered a variety of facades, which you’ll see as the post continues. Not to mention, if we had to be in 100 degree heat during a Texas July day, it wasn’t the worst place to spend the afternoon! In this next shot, Sarah strikes a pose amidst the metal and glass.
A true professional, Sarah thrived in each setting, using her intuition to seamlessly blend fashion and architecture in stunning composition after composition. Below, Sarah stars in a shot that showcases photographer Darrin Cherry’s knack for capturing magical moments:
Let’s talk fashion! Stylist Matthew Klimek spotted this striped dress (love the built-in pocket hanky) on the racks at New Bohemia. Colorful, playful and ’80s! He added a white braided belt, noting the gold thread incorporated into the weave. He carried this gold and white combo into the earrings, which can be seen in greater detail at the top of the post. Both belt and earrings were found at New Bohemia. The shoes, Sarah’s own, bring a touch of contemporary style to the ensemble.
What would the ’80s have been without “fitness fashion”? Yes, workout wear became a wardrobe regular during this aerobics-crazed decade. From behind the lens, Peter creates a high-fashion shot with the help of Sarah’s graceful stance.
It’s all about the angular lines! In another striking scene set by Peter, a geometric leotard pattern mirrors the architectural beams of the building. A big thanks to Trisha Vail and Lecia Bates Harkins of Russ and Company Salon for creating a flawless update of the ’80s side ponytail. Not to mention, their berry-toned makeup palette perfectly complemented the wardrobe, as seen in the shot below.
Peter Tung, you’ve once again masterminded a fabulous collaborative project! Darrin, Matthew and Sarah–it was a blast braving the afternoon heat with you, all for the sake of ’80s style! And of course, we couldn’t have pulled this off without the amazing fashion finds from New Bohemia. A special thank you to this vintage boutique for being so supportive of our creative endeavor!
