Several years ago I purchased The Decorating Book by Mary Gilliatt, and it’s been my ’80s design guide ever since. One of the images that truly captivated me was the photo above. That carpet and textile pattern, identified as nothing more than green and white diagonal stripes, really stuck with me–so much so that I’ve considered trying to duplicate it with paint on the inside of my open kitchen shelving.
