With Memphis-Milano style back on our radar, a new wave of artists, designers and curators are celebrating geometric forms, interesting patterns and bold color combinations. New Memphis style has a modern edge, sometimes a tad more minimal than its ’80s predecessor, and at other times even more vivid. Here are some recent projects, photos and offerings that celebrate Memphis style…
Happy Monday–today should be a colorful one! A new week brings new possibilities, so I’m sharing Mirror80’s latest photo shoot. It’s a blend of Memphis-Milano style and sculptural totem forms, and I’m calling it Stackables. For awhile now, I’ve been creating tabletop totems at home. My favorite items to use in stackables: vases, bowls, and dollar store items (such as ping pong balls, rubber band balls and other sporty items).
For a colorful take on holiday gift wrap, revel in New Memphis style this season! In fact, the Memphis-Milano revival is quite liberating, as it celebrates hand-drawn style, as well as shapes such as squiggles and zigzags. In other words, the pressure to be perfect is gone. For last month’s London Design Festival 2015, artist Camille Walala created an array of vibrant products for Aria, adding a bold dose of color to the shop with items that ranged from furniture and pillows to ceramics and prints. Aria is still offering these works of art, and today we take a look at some of our very favorites!
One of my favorite aspects of Memphis-Milano design is the shocking combination of colors. When bright red meets lavender and aqua, pure magic is created. But what about the picture-perfect blend of pastels with a dash of vivid yellow? Today’s featured finds celebrate the tropical-toned side of Memphis, when everything comes together in a soothing blend, yet there’s just enough geometry and offbeat radiance to wake you up.
