Happy Monday, Everyone! This weekend I prepared for Mirror80’s latest Retro Foodie photo shoot, which will take place later today. The theme: Yuppie Cocktail Hour! I tested out the recipes yesterday, and my hubby and I enjoyed a swanky dinner of appetizers last night. Today I’ll be preparing the appetizers one more time, photographing them, then having my Mom over for lunch to celebrate the end of the shoot by gobbling up the goods. But first I wanted to share with you some weekend highlights…
Yuppie Cocktail Hour
This week at Mirror80, we’re shining a spotlight on the finer things in life. Swanky lobbies with black marble tile, gourmet food with fancy flourishes, and designer cocktails with a kick! Yes, we’re peeking into the world of the 1980s yuppie. If you’ve seen films like The Secret of My Success or Baby Boom, you know what we’re talking about. Yuppies worked hard, but they played even harder. And some of that play time involved cocktail parties and trips to restaurants like Gotham in New York…
Retro Foodie: An ’80s Valentine’s Day Dessert Buffet!
It’s hard to imagine a holiday that’s more ’80s-worthy than Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re single or coupled, this is a time to revel in the myriad of dessert-themed visuals that can’t help but conjure the decadence of the 1980s. If you’ve been reading Mirror80 this month, you know that we created two mood boards in preparation for this Retro Foodie photo shoot. After much thought and consideration, we decided to go cute. After all, we can veer into glam territory for a range of foodie adventures. But how often can you have a full-on ’80s-style sweet fest?! Retro Foodie: An ’80s Awards Show Party
Hi Everyone! Awards season is officially here, so we proudly present our second installment of “Retro Foodie” with an awards show menu that is easy, dazzling and fun. Plus some ’80s-inspired decor that plays up the “glam” element of the decade’s design. To begin, a backdrop of balloons taped to the wall creates the effect of pearls, or bubbles in a glass of champagne.
Retro Foodie: A Midnight Snack
Today Mirror80 launches a new blog series called MirrorFoodie. Once or twice a month we’ll feature a foodscape that incorporates elements of retro style, plus some recipe ideas that are easy and fun. We kick off 2013 with a midnight snack of deviled eggs, baked olives, and celery hearts stuffed with goat cheese. Champagne with fresh blackberries makes it sparkle…
An ’80s Christmas Luncheon
You know those crazy ’80s parties steeped in nostalgia? Where everybody dresses up, drinks sunset-colored martinis and goes home with a Rubik’s cube or an arm full of plastic jewelry? We’ve hosted one of those! Today’s featured ’80s-themed gathering is a little different… I recently threw an ’80s Christmas luncheon for family to ring in the holidays. The focus: ’80s glamour and decadent food! In fact, in the 1980s, food was displayed in a “big” way! At the finest restaurants, each plate was a canvas that used tools such as ground pepper, chives, nuts and other “garnishes” to make a culinary statement. Read on for more ’80s foodie fun…
