I spent some time this weekend collaborating with talented photographer Peter Tung, a good friend who has organized two ’80s-themed photo shoots for this coming week in Austin, Texas! We are thrilled to be featuring retro finds from Austin-based vintage clothing store New Bohemia. They consistently offer amazing ’80s pieces like rompers, tank tops, dresses and large plastic jewelry (the white necklace above is one of my personal purchases from New Bohemia). Add the expertise of stylist Matthew Klimek of Butterfly Entertainment, and this promises to be an ’80s-fabulous shoot!

10 Awesome ’80s Art Tumblrs!
So much ’80s art, so little time… Two years ago when I started this blog, I had to search long and hard to find 1980s images online. I knew every ’80s design pic by heart, and I added my share of new images to the mix, but I yearned for the day when a 1980s revival would reach the realms of art and interior design. That day has arrived, and my head is exploding (and I couldn’t be happier about it)! ’80s art Tumblrs are popping up left and right, and we’re here to spotlight 10 of the best! A special thanks to my friends Art and Afshar for leading me to some of my favorite Tumblrs on this list. You won’t want to miss what follows…

Friday Video Pick: “The Other Side of Life” by The Moody Blues
While die-hard Moody Blues fans may prefer the band’s earlier work to their mid-’80s tracks, songs like “Your Wildest Dreams,” “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” and “The Other Side of Life” definitely have a special place in our hearts here at Mirror80. And it’s “The Other Side of Life” that we profile today. This video may as well be a performance art piece. Where else can you see a character lose his way in the back alleys of the city, only to see visions of himself in various helpless positions, including being fed head-first into the path of a rotating table saw? All the while, he’s pursued by a blue-haired beauty that may as well be from a Philip K. Dick novel. This is ’80s video magic, people…
’80s Graphic Design Finds from Il Giardino Luxor
Hey all you dreamers out there… Today we spotlight three ’80s postcards from Etsy shop Il Giardino Luxor. These collectibles feature artwork from Italian postcard company Arti Grafiche Ricordi. Since we couldn’t stop with just one, we decided to highlight three 1980s-fabulous selections featuring beautiful, wistful young ladies in various states of daydreaming. Since most of us will never indulge in a bittersweet moment while seagulls fly overhead, a swan uses our scalp as a launchpad or two birds becomes friends in the windowsill below, we can at least live vicariously through these lovely heroines…

’80s Redux: Memphis-Inspired Design at the YMS Hairstyle Salon
It’s safe to say that ’80s style has officially entered the world of commercial interior design! It makes sense that this public realm would be quicker to embrace riskier, friskier decor than the residential space arena. But bold design enthusiasts who are cutting edge enough to bring the ’80s home can get some fabulous ideas from spaces like the one showcased in today’s post! Salon chain Mič Styling took on a new series of endeavors: a group of salons targeting a more youthful, style-forward crowd. The result: YMS hair salon.
’80s Pastel Power
While researching pastel interior design for another article, I came across images of sky-themed wallpaper, flamingos and other ’80s-fabulous motifs. To my surprise, the source of origin for these pics was a 2010 article from The Guardian! And it seems some of the featured products are still available for purchase. Because when you combine a pink bird with a Memphis-Milano color palette, it just doesn’t get any better…
