Today I’m thrilled to share Mirror80’s latest interview: a chat with Halt and Catch Fire Set Decorator Lance Totten. With more than 20 years of experience in the industry, Lance has brought his design vision and flair for detail to HCF for the past two seasons. Read on as he shares his favorite ’70s and ’80s design resources, as well as the importance of authenticity. Yes, he’s been known to special order brass spray paint from Krylon, meticulously ensure that lamps on set have tapered shades, and insist on replacing plastic with metal when it comes to ’80s office staples such as dry erase boards and chair casters…

Weekend Snapshots
Hope everyone’s having a relaxing weekend! I wanted to share a few snapshots from the past couple of days. Here in the US, it’s been a long 4th of July weekend, and there are many ways to celebrate this holiday. For me, it’s all about taking a step back from life, being grateful, spending time with the people I care about and trying to remember that it’s summer. It’s been a busy one, and I don’t have a big trip planned so it’s all about the little moments this year!
A Colorful Summer Party
Here in the USA, we’re preparing for a long 4th of July holiday weekend! If you’re searching for colorful tabletop ideas, today’s post is for you. I’m sharing the photos from my latest Mirror80 shoot, which combines retro flair with the current abstract art and Memphis-Milano revivals. While the color scheme will definitely work for the 4th of July, this vibrant tabletop can carry you through the summer, especially since tropical plants are involved!

Design Inspiration: Colorful ’80s Interiors
There are many ’80s design trends that influence my style as I make attempts to infuse my place with personality (stripes, borders and plants, to name a few). Today I’m shining the spotlight on one irresistible, magical 1980s formula for success: vibrant artwork + a checkered floor + lots of plants = design perfection! Even if you don’t adopt this look in your home, it can inspire a range of vignettes, such as tablescapes.

A Dreamy ’80s Deco Still Life Shoot
Today I’m sharing a few snapshots from my latest photo shoot. The subjects of these still life pics are ’80s Deco ceramics! If you caught Mirror80’s latest post on the set design of the 1982 film Tootsie, you saw plenty of sleek ceramics in shades of lavender and pink. The movie inspired me to line up my ’80s vases and swans and photograph them. The flowers you see above are peonies, and once the petals started falling, the shoot took on kind of a dreamy quality, so I went with it. Here are a few more images…enjoy!
