I couldn’t resist posting the IMDB plot summary: “A shy San Francisco librarian and a bumbling cop fall in love as they solve a crime involving albinos, dwarves, and the Catholic Church.” You know, you just have to see this zany pic to get the full effect! This weekend while I was having fun with the Mirror80 Pinterest boards, I couldn’t help but notice one important fact: 1stdibs is an amazing treasure trove for high-end ’80s furniture! If you’re a serious collector, you’re in luck. And if you’re not, you can still probably find some good deals (or at least a splurge or two). What’s better than donuts covered with chocolate icing? Donuts covered with chocolate icing and sprinkles! In fact, the sprinkle motif is the inspiration for today’s montage. Why Outsiders Love Their Plants
Maybe it’s all this spring weather we’re having here in Texas, but lately I’ve had plants on the brain. Which is why I keep noticing them in the movies I’m watching… What strikes me as particularly interesting is the way that films about outsiders integrate unusual plant life into the homes of the main characters. These are characters who defy the rules of their oppressive societies, go against the wishes of their employers, and spend their off hours engaged in illegal activities for the greater good. They barely have time to shower. But boy, do they have amazing plants in their apartments!

1980s Film Fun
Happy Wednesday, Everyone! Here in beautiful Austin, TX, the South by Southwest Music, Film and Interactive Conferences and Festivals are well underway. I’m a sucker for the SXSW Film Festival, not only because this is always Austin’s most beautiful weather week of the year, but because seeing amazing film after film is absolutely addictive. You may remember that last year I saw and reviewed a great documentary called Beauty Is Embarrassing, featuring artist Wayne White (who designed sets and puppets for the hit ’80s children’s show Pee-wee’s Playhouse). This year the festival has put me in the mood to take a look back at some fun Mirror80 posts featuring some key 1980s films!
Retro Foodie: A Yuppie Cocktail Party Menu
This ’80s yuppie cocktail party has been in the works for quite some time, and we’re thrilled to bring you the pics from this week’s photo shoot! The key to throwing an ’80s cocktail party: good drinks and over-the-top food. In the 1980s, it was all about food presentation. Food was stacked, garnished and arranged as art. The portions were often too small and the finishes overdone, but hey–it was pretty! And nobody needed to escape into the world of gourmet food like the ’80s yuppie (young upwardly-mobile professional). They worked more than they played, so when they played, they had to play hard!
