Today I’m sharing a tour of my home office, which has been in transition pretty much ever since we moved into our place almost two years ago! While the photos in the post make the room’s accent wall look yellow, it’s actually a bit more lime green than it appears in the pics. Originally intended to be a nursery when the time came, the space was quickly reappointed as the home office when we ended up having to get new flooring in the room that held our desks. So here we are with our lime green wall, bright orange shelves and grey carpet. And here’s how we attempted to make it all work…
The New ’70s Modern
We spend a lot of time talking about 1980s style here at Mirror80, but today we’re heading back to the ’70s. Yet it’s different from past visions of the 1970s filled with orange, mustard and avocado tones. It’s the ’70s re-imagined through dreamy photographs, an abundance of plants, large mineral specimens, geometric terrariums, and wall […]

1980s Interior Design Spotlight: Florida Real Estate
It’s the start of a new week, and I’m excited to share today’s image-packed post with you! First I’d like to begin by thanking ’80s interior design expert Skylar Strickland, who you will remember from a Mirror80 interview we published back in August of 2013. Skylar has recently launched a 1980s interior design Tumblr called 80s Heaven, which features a range of retro-fabulous images, including many real estate photos of ’80s-built houses.
Happy Valentine’s Day
So we’re coming up on Valentine’s Day weekend, and I wanted to share a few of my recent photos with you. Let me start by saying that I know this is kind of a weird holiday. Like all holidays, it can be lonely if you’re missing somebody, and the heavy advertising at this time of year doesn’t help. With that said, I’ve always believed that Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to do something nice for yourself. And for the people you care about, including friends and family.
Spring Collection Spotlight: Urban Outfitters
There’s definitely something dreamy going on in the realm of modern interiors. Geometry and mixed materials are hot, hot, hot, along with nods to ’70s and ’80s design. Think unusual wall hangings, bold angles, pastels, shaggy textures, and a combination of earthy style and Memphis motifs. Urban Outfitters’ spring collection perfectly captures this look. And with affordability! Win!
1980s Interior Design Trend: Plants!
So many plants, so little time… Today’s post is dedicated to 1980s interiors decked out in greenery. Plants were one of the biggest trends in interior design from the Decade of Decadence. Not to mention, plants were a big deal in ’70s design, and houseplants are experiencing a HUGE revival as we speak. Let’s face it: plants are timeless! Ready for a closer look?

While I know people have different views on this holiday (it can be a tough day, it can be a great day), I enjoy it because so many of the visuals can’t help but ooze retro style.
