Happy New Year, Everyone! Before launching into the festivity of 2014 (there are some exciting things planned here at Mirror80), I wanted to take a minute and reflect on our favorite posts of 2013. Last year brought some delicious new developments, such as our Retro Foodie series, which explores creative ways to incorporate late ’70s-early ’90s design into your food and entertaining adventures. Another fun development: finally getting a new camera, which took our photo shoots up a notch. More fun to come in that department, but until then, here’s a look back at some of our favorite moments of the past year. Don’t forget to click on the links to view the full posts…
Retro New Year’s Eve Pin-spiration
Happy New Year to all of our Mirror80 readers! Wishing you a festive New Year’s Eve celebration and a restful New Year’s Day. Thank you for making this past year at Mirror80 a fabulous one. Over the next few days, we will be sharing some of our favorite moments from 2013, as well as our goals for the year ahead. For now, we’d love to share our latest Pinterest board, which is packed full of last-minute retro-style New Year’s party ideas, as well as sparkling vignettes for the upcoming awards show season (anyone hosting an Oscar party)?
A Retro New Year’s Eve Party
Hi, Everyone! Can you believe it’s almost 2014? What are your New Year’s Eve plans? My hubby and I were thinking of throwing a party… But over the course of the last month or so, we’ve dealt with our fair share of chaos, including a car accident and a surgery. So going out to eat, then coming back home to toast the New Year in a low-key fashion sounded just right to us this year. But that didn’t stop me from staging a Retro Foodie photo shoot in honor of the upcoming holiday. And this vignette will also work for an awards show party (hey, the Golden Globes and the Oscars are on the horizon). So read on for all the details…
Saved by the Cubes
Happy Friday, Everyone! Did you have a nice Christmas? Today I wanted to share one of my favorite holiday gifts. Actually, it’s a gift my hubby and I purchased for our cat–the Kitty City Jungle Gym! We actually spotted this fabulous find on a trip to Target well before the holidays, and we instantly knew this was “the gift” for our little pride and joy. True selling points: the cozy cubes, the pastel motifs, the black netting, and the general feel that this feline playground was confiscated from the set of Saved by the Bell. You know, if the main characters had been cats…
Happy Holidays
Are you a fan of ’80s art? Perhaps you’ll love this 1980s-style holiday card as much I do… Created by artist and graphic designer Taylor Hillestad, this artistic greeting showcases the Deco design and clean lines of our favorite decade. When Taylor sent the card my way, I knew I wanted to share it with Mirror80 readers just in time for Christmas! Taylor’s inspiration: ’80s landscape art, Deco style and the use of gradients.

The Art of Landry McMeans
While at the Blue Genie Art Bazaar in Austin, Texas this past weekend, I came across the artwork of Landry McMeans. It was love at first sight! Maybe it’s the 3-D effect created by cardboard relief. Or perhaps it’s the prevalence of gradients, mini blind motifs and Southwestern landscapes. Calling it ’80s-style art would be oversimplifying the diversity of each piece. Yet for those who love retro style, there are definite themes that you will recognize from years gone by.
The Mirror80 2013 Holiday Gift Guide
If you’re like us, you may be doing some last-minute online Christmas shopping this weekend… There’s still plenty of time to shop in stores, but if you want your goodies shipped to your door, now is the time to make your final selections. For your convenience, we’ve put together The 2013 Mirror80 Holiday Gift Guide, filled with goodies that boast a touch of ’80s style. These are new items with retro flair. Don’t forget about the wonder of vintage ’80s and ’90s finds, available through online sources such as eBay and Etsy. But for today, we turn our attention to the brand new, and we’ve honored a range of price points and budgets. Happy shopping, and Happy Holidays from Mirror80!
The Cherry Alignment by Annabel Schofield
Last November, I had the pleasure of interviewing author, actress, director, producer and supermodel extraordinaire Annabel Schofield! Glamorous, charismatic and wonderfully down to earth, this international fashion model of the 1980s starred in ad campaigns for Revlon, Gianni Versace, Yves St. Laurent and Levi’s (to name a few), and you probably remember her from that iconic Bugle Boy Jeans commercial… At the time of our interview (which you can read here and here), Annabel had written a novel called The Cherry Alignment. This tasty read is now available in its entirety on Amazon.com, and we’d like to once again congratulate Annabel on her literary achievement!
