Ready for some sparkle?! I’m really looking forward to 2017, so I couldn’t wait another day to share the photos from Mirror80’s New Year’s Eve shoot. I’ll also be sharing a few easy ways to throw a party together at the last minute. The answer: tinsel. Lots of tinsel! Keep reading for pics, tips, and a LOT of shimmer…
About that tinsel… There’s so much you can do with it. You can wrap it around the base of serving pieces such as cake stands. You can use it to embellish the tips of cocktail stirrers. And of course, everything’s better when you use a gold metallic fringe curtain as your backdrop:
Keeping the food simple is another key to success. My rule: make something, buy something. And the items I make usually aren’t too difficult! Below we see round crackers topped with goat cheese and pink peppercorn. This is my go-to entertaining appetizer when I want something colorful and delicious. Adding lemon juice and sea salt to the goat cheese takes it up a notch:
These DIY drink stirrers are hardly a new idea! But they’re so fabulous, I had to make my own. To create them, snip one-inch sections of tinsel from the strand. You will also want to purchase bamboo skewers and cut them to the right height for your glasses. Simply top the skewers with tinsel, using a dab of hot glue to secure it in place. Since the tinsel has thin wire in it, you can bend the snippet around the skewer so it forms a ball, as shown below:
See the tinsel I wrapped around the base of the cake server in the next image?! Super easy and super festive. And in case you’re wondering, that fabulous iridescent piece under the apple and cranberry pie is the Beta Pastry Server from CB2. Only $14.95, folks!
Don’t forget other nibbles, such as salted cashews. The bowl is another affordable CB2 find:
But who are we kidding…this party really isn’t about the food. It’s about the tinsel!!!
I’ll be back next week with a look at my favorite Mirror80 posts of 2016. Until then, wishing you and yours a sparkling Holiday Season! XOXO, Kate
